The Mark of The Christian—Separation
I. SOME EXAMPLES OF SEPARATION
1. PAUL
Before his conversion he was a Pharisee of the Pharisees. He was converted and regenerated, made over by the transforming power of Christ. From that time on he was a changed man. He separated himself from the old life and the old ways.
2. THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL
Down in Egypt they were nothing but slaves, driven by the Egyptians lash. But their leaving Egypt and going to Canaan is an example of separation.
3. JESUS
If you want to see the most wonderfully separated man who ever lived you have only to look at the God-Man, Christ Jesus. He never sinned, He needed no regenerating experience, but He lived a life of complete separation from the world.
II. WHAT ARE WE TO BE SEPARATED FROM?
1. WE ARE TO BE SEPARATED FROM SINFUL COMPANIONS
Many a man has started out in a fine way in the Christian life, but soon he went back to his sinful companions and drifted into sin.
2. WE ARE TO BE SEPARATED FROM SINFUL PLACES
You can walk into some places as a sinner where you cannot walk as a Christian.
The conscience which is really and truly regenerated will say, “I cannot go now to that place of sin.”
3. WE ARE TO BE SEPARATED FROM SINFUL HABITS
Yes, if a man’s Christianity means anything, he must break off with the sinful habits which formerly gripped him.
He must arise in the strength of the Lord and continue the good fight.
III. WHY SHOULD WE SEPARATE OURSELVES FROM THE WORLD?
1. BECAUSE JESUS DEMANDS IT
He said, “… come out from among them, and be ye separate… ”
2 Corinthians 6:17 KJV 1900
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
We are to say to Him, “Lord, what is Thy will in this matter?”
And when He gives the answer we must say, “I will walk in Thy way”
