Transcript
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
We have been programed from early childhood that we should all be on this path of perusing wealth, happiness, career, fame, education...
Spend lifetime perusing those things, only to reach a point and realize, that it seems to be in vain.
A recent article in MarketWatch entitled Mo Money, Mo Problems indicates that the wealthier a person is, the more unhappy they are.
The upward trend of happiness and the growth of your bank account ends for most at $105,000!
Beyond the annual income of $105,000, happiness decreases with every dollar earned!
Why?
More money, more wants
More money, more isolation
More money, more work
But we are still trained to peruse these fleeting things that the more we have, the greater deficit they are to us!
Jesus dealt with this subject quite a lot...
Parable of the Rich man and Lazarus
Rich man died and when to hell, Lazarus to Abraham’s bosom.
What was the determining factor of their eternal destination?
What they pursued in life!
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
In context there is nothing wrong with wealth, fame, education…
Not preaching against these things...
But if you are unhappy this morning, you have them out of priority!
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Universal Truth: A life without God first is an unhappy life!
When God is not first, life is overwhelming!
When God is not first, your relationships struggle!
When God is not first, chaos ensues!
Conclusion:
You say, Pastor, I’m not unhappy!
Are you anxious?
Struggling with addiction?
Sleepless nights?
Are your friend anxious? Addicted? Unhappy?
Angry?
Complaining?
I am here to introduce you to Jesus!
His purpose!
What will you exchange for your soul?
Will you give up chaos for peace?
Will you trade addiction for purpose?
Will you exchange fear for joy?
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
