Prayerful Giver
So last week we saw how you and I are to be generous in our giving
I hope that you understand being a generous giver is not tied to the amount but the heart behind the amount
The amount has nothing to do with being generous, it is the matter of the heart
So church let me ask you this, are you a generous giver?
And if not what do you need to do to become a generous giver
This week we will move on to being a prayerful giver
Seems kind of backwards that we would not add on being a prayerful giver after you were just told to be generous, but I didn’t write it that way
But as we look at different characteristics of being a giver, a tither
This week we look to being a prayerful giver
But just the first part of vs 7
Each one of us must do what we have decided in our hearts
You and I have to make a decision and follow through with that
We are to make a determination in our hearts and follow through with that
So what is it to make a determination in our heart and to follow through with it
I think first we need to start all the way at the beginning
RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS
But God
I absolutely love this verse because it shows God’s amazing love for us
Even when you and I were still stuck in sin, even when we were still enemies against God
He loved us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus to die on our behalf
Because of Jesus’s death and resurrection we can know have life
There is nothing stopping us from having a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe God Himself!
We can know repent of our sin and trust in Jesus and have a personal relationship with God Himself
This is where the beginning of life is
And because of that personal relationship with Jesus there is something so cool that happens
Because of that personal relationship with Jesus the Holy Spirit Himself
The Spirit of God now dwells in you
Because you have repented and trusted in the Lord and have that personal relationship now the Holy Spirit lives inside you
That is so cool
And because the Holy Spirit lives inside you
You no longer are you own
The Holy Spirit has now set up shop in you and you cannot evict Him
He has bought and paid for you with the blood of Jesus
You have given Him the keys to your heart and He has come in and dwelt inside you
What you need to know about the Holy Spirit dwelling or living inside you is that is the Holy Spirit that is God
And who knows the heart of God better than the Holy Spirit
Who knows the heart of a person better than the Spirit within that person
So who knows the heart of God better than the Spirit of God
And good news for those who have repented and trusted Jesus to be their personal Lord and Savior
You have the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you
You are given a front row seat to the heart of God
You can know the heart of God because of your personal relationship through Jesus
Just because he is living inside you though doesn’t mean you get to coast right, you and I have a responsibility in this walk
We have to seek the Lord
We have to actively seek the heart of God
We have to read our Bibles, we have to spend time praying to God
We have to spend time repenting and praise God
That is what it is to seek the Lord, to diligently and actively seek the Lord
When we do that we will find Him and His heart
God has a heart for those who seek Him and are obedient to Him
When Paul said make a determination in your heart, it was to decided on something and be obedient
When you and I decide on something, first we should seek the Lord and know His heart
Church it is done through prayer
We are to be praying to seek the Lord and His heart
We can know His heart because we have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us because we have repenting and trusted in Jesus to be our Lord and Savior
Then it is to follow through with what God has told us through prayer as we seek Him
Are you starting to see and understand how making a determination in our heart is oh so important
In this instance church we are talking about tithing, giving and offerings
We are to seek the Lord diligently through prayer about what we are to tithe, what we are to give, and what we are to offer
We are to be a prayerful giver
Then come the obedient part
We are to be obedient to what God has called us to do
Church we are to be doers of the word and not simply hearers
For some you will hear these sermons and think sounds good but idk
For some you will hear these sermons and go amen that’s right, and give next week
For some you will hear these sermons and seek the Lord as to what you are to give and then give what he has told you
No longer can we simply sit back and say that is someone else’s responsibility
No i am sure that if God has spoken to you then it is no one else’s responsibility other than yours
Do not sit here today and simply hear this, but take it to heart and begin to be obedient to what God is telling you to do
When you are just a hearer of Gods word, you deceive yourself into thinking you have a close personal relationship with Jesus
Do not be deceived, but be obedient
Church as the band comes up and we move into a time of invitation
The call to obedience does not end at give money
Maybe you are here and have never repented and trusted in Jesus
Would you be obedient to walk to the front and speak with someone and repent from you sin and trust Jesus and make that public
Maybe you need to be obedient in your giving money, maybe you need to be obedient in repenting or spending time in prayer, or reconciling, or praying with someone else
Or maybe there is a decision you need to make this morning
