How Great a Salvation
How Great a Salvation
Hebrews 2:3
Jude in his epistle chapter 1:3 refers to the “common salvation”. Paul uses the similar expression in his letter to Titus 1:4, “common faith”.
The Greek word for common that is used here is κοινη. It is the same Greek term to describe the language of the N.T. Properly, it is that which is suitable or “common’ to all!
There is nothing ordinary or bass about salvation, hence the author of Hebrews calls it “Great”!
I. How great is this salvation?
A. Greater than all your sin.
1. Is there any sin his blood did not cover?
2. Is there anyone beyond the bounds of grace?
B. Great enough to effectually transform you into a child of God.
John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
Jesus said to Nicodemas in John 3:3, “except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
II. Can it’s greatness effect your mortal bodies?
A. It will change your vile bodies in the rapture.
As Paul says, “We shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:51
B. It can wrest the physical through the spiritual.
1. The spiritual understanding of your state should cause you to consider the responsibility you have to the flesh. (Romans 6:12)
Paul says here that we should consider “reckon” your-selves indeed dead unto sin and alive unto God through Christ. If you have this perspective then will you not allow sin to reign in your mortal bodies.
2. The mindset of the Christian is the key to bringing change in the physical. (Romans 12:1-2)
This is why the scripture says “as a man thinketh so is he.”
