Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Central Point of the Sermon: God calls children to submit to their parents by living an obedient life.
Question? What does children submitting to parents?
Children who submit obey their parents (vs. 1).
Children who submit obey their parents (vs. 1).
It is important that we remember the context surrounding children submitting to their parents. In Ephesians 4:18 Paul instructed the Ephesians not to be drunk with wine but to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is only by the Holy Spirit that children will submit to their parents. It is important for every child to remember the importance of knowing God, and having his Spirit within in order to walk in obedience.
If we remember children in ancient Israel we will see the importance of submitting to and obeying parents.
2 Timothy 3:1-6
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
