Come and Follow

1) Remember playing follow the leader?

2) Did you ever follow someone without question?

3) Did you ever drop everything you were doing to go with someone?

a) Someone sick

b) A friend in need

4) In our scripture we see Jesus calling some of his disciples

5) This takes place after John was arrested

6) Jesus announces that the time has come.

a) Time for his ministry to begin

b) The beginning of God’s plan of salvation

7) Repent and believe the only way into the kingdom

a) This is the starting line

8) The common points

a) Jesus called

b) Disciples answered without question

c) Left everything

9) God calls people today

10) Some people are called to minister in different ways

a) Missionaries

b) Pastors

c) Monks, nuns

d) Prayer ministry

11) Is God calling or has he called you?

12) How do you know if God is calling

a) Are you passionate about something

b) Do you see a need that’s not being met?

13) What is your response?

14) Do we hesitate? Do we refuse? Are we worried about what people will think?

15) Being a follower of Christ has a price

a) Is it going to cost you money?

b) Is it going to cost possessions?

16) What will it cost?

17) The questions we must ask ourselves is are we willing to deny ourselves?

Mark 1:14-20 (NIV)
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. 19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
