2 Samuel 5:23–24 (KJV 1900)
23 And when David inquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
God has directed me to this passage all week.
Read over it a lot, different versions, commentaries
There are three of things that stand out to me that I want to talk about tonight.
Inquired of God
Should be obvious but often is so obvious that we forget.
Life has a way of getting so complicated, so many demands on our time that we learn to operate our of our ability rather than God’s
Joshua 9:14 KJV 1900
14 And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the Lord.
Mulberry trees
American mulberry tree is delicious.
Every other translation uses the word balsam or poplar tree.
They are a family of what is knows as weeping, or milk producing or balm producing trees.
The value of these trees are is not in heat or even shade, rather in the medicine that is made from them!
What I can’t get away from in this passage is that victory came from the Grove of Healing.
So much of what we do deals with people in their bloody, broken, wounded spirits...
Victory comes from the Grove of Healing!
Revival comes from the Grove of Healing!
Backsliders
Hear the Sound
Sound: thunder
This is tied to 2 Kings 7:6
2 Kings 7:6 (KJV 1900)
6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.
2 Chronicles 20:29 (KJV 1900)
29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.
It also ties to 2 Kings 6.
2 Kings 6:15–17 (KJV 1900)
15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
What did he see?
He saw what David heard that day!
Why do we work with people at their worst?
Because we love them!
Where the love of God is, the angelic host will gather!
Where the angelic host is, the purpose of God will be fulfilled.
People go crazy when you start talking about angels.
Hebrews 1:14 KJV 1900
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Love people and listen for the sound!
