Isaiah 66:22–24 ESV
22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain. 23 From new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the Lord. 24 “And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”
Hell: Errors vs Truth
Error:
That it isn’t real, or only for really bad people.
Truth:
It is real; the destination of everyone who does not turn to Christ as their savior.
Error:
That it is temporary, or that souls eventually cease to exist.
Truth:
It is, technically, a temporary place. The Lake of Fire is permanent.
Revelation 20:10 & 14-15
Error:
Hell is ruled by Satan.
Truth:
It is a punishment for them too.
2 Peter 2:4; Revelation 20:10
Error:
It is like a frat party/college reunion.
Truth:
Hell is a place of torment and isolation, but not reunion. It is a place of darkness.
Matthew 8:12; 22:13; 25:30
Error:
We feel remorse or repentance.
Truth:
Those in Hell do not feel any remorse for how they lived their lives.
Error:
Hell is the separation from God.
Truth:
Hell is the complete absence of relationship with God, and immediate presence of his wrath against sin and rebels.
Hell: How Do We Talk About It?
We affirm it as the truth.
We talk about it in terms of Gods justice.
We juxtapose it against God’s mercy.
