What are the Mountains that God wants you to take in His Name?
Courageous Faith is Built on God’s Promise
Caleb reminded Joshua about the Lord’s promise years earlier.
They were living proof that God fulfills His promises.
Going back to fateful day at Kadesh-Barnea, Caleb brought an honest report, focused on God’s covenant faithfulness.
The other 10 spies brought an evil report focused upon the impossibilities, the mountains, and the giants.
Nm. 14:6-7 “6 And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land.”
Caleb was convinced that since God had accurately described the land, miraculously brought them out of Egypt, and faithfully led them through the desert, He would fight for them (Num.
14:9 “Only do not rebel against the Lord.
And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us.
Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”)
Courageous faith is believes the promise of God, instead of fearing the problems.
Courageous Faith in God Gives Unique Purpose
God said of Caleb, that “he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully...” (Num.
14:24).
The result was a promise that he would get to enter the land (along with Joshua), when everyone else over 20 would not.
Caleb was about to say that he “wholly followed the Lord my God.”
Obedience to God’s command, and faith in God’s promise gives a unique purpose in life.
He had something to look forward to!
That purpose fueled him.
What is the unique purpose that God has given you?
To find it, purpose to fully follow the Lord.
Courageous faith is expressed in obedience to God!
Courageous Faith Brings Generational Power
Caleb’s faith in God’s promise, and obedience to God’s command gave him power and passion.
At 85 years of age he had the strength of a 40 year old.
He asked God for the very hill country (mountain) that caused the other 10 spies to fear.
He picked the biggest giants so that God’s power could be shown.
Courageous faith is energized by the power of God.
Joshua 14:12 “So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities.
It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”
Courageous faith is contagious.
Caleb’s faith inspired others - Othniel (Joshua 15:13-19).
