1. Jesus is the Source of Life.
a. Creator
i. He made everything. John 1:1-4
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
ii. He breathed into man, the breath of life. Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
When does life begin? The moment a new born baby takes it’s first breath?
iii. Life is in the blood. Genesis 9:4; Leviticus 17:11
But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’
Heartbeat bills honor this principle that life is in the blood.
iv. Spirit returns to God. Ecclesiastes 12:6-7
Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, Or the golden bowl is broken, Or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, Or the wheel broken at the well. Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.
Life is spirit and flesh. Death is the separation of the spirit from the flesh.
b. Designer
i. He formed us in the womb. Jeremiah 1:4-5
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Scientists are trying to play god.
ii. We are wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13–15
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Imagine finding out who your mother is after being raised by two gay men?
Imagine you find a half brother and then other and then 67 others!
iii. He knows our life. Psalm 139:16–18
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.
Whatever struggle you are going through, He knows it and your Maker is rooting for you!
c. Spiritual Life
i. Adam and Eve were told they would die the day they ate of the fruit. Genesis 2:15–17
Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
ii. Sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59:2
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
iii. Adam and Eve physically sent out of the garden. Genesis 3:23
therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.
Each of us have had our lives impacted by sin. Next week we will talk about how Christ has redeemed our life.
