 Jesus – Healer and Preacher

 Scope of Jesus' Ministry

 Individual Needs

 Peter's Mother-in-law

Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. (Mark 1:30, NIV - Anglicised)

 Personal touch

So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. (Mark 1:31, NIV - Anglicised)

Jesus is still concerned with individual needs

We should pray for people we know

… and they told Jesus about her. (Mark 1:30, NIV - Anglicised)

 Community Needs

 Town comes to Jesus

That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, (Mark 1:32-33, NIV - Anglicised)

 Personal touch

Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons. (Mark 1:34, NIV - Anglicised)

Jesus is still concerned with individual needs in a community context

We should pray for people in our community

 Wider Needs

 God's concerns

 Jesus prayed

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. (Mark 1:35, NIV - Anglicised)

 … for strength and direction

… to align Himself with God's concerns

 Disciples fail to see them

Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!" (Mark 1:36-37, NIV - Anglicised)

 Concerned with the moment

 World needs Jesus

Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else–to the nearby villages–so that I can preach there also. That is why I have come." (Mark 1:38, NIV - Anglicised)

Jesus is still concerned with individual needs in a global context

We should pray for people in the wider world
