Purpose of our Local Church
Purpose of our Local Church
1. Definition of Church
a. Greater Church: All who serve Jesus Christ all around the world
b. Local Church: A group of believers who come together for a purpose.
2. Purpose of the Church can be found in three places:
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
i. Be in relationship
ii. Be INTENTIONAL, both as an individual and as a church.
b. Christ’s Commandments:
Matt 22:37-40
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
c. Christ’s Commission:
Matt 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Out of those three verses (and many, many more) we get 5 areas to review:
1. Worship
2. Fellowship
2. Discipleship
4. Evangelism
5. Ministry
Let’s talk about EVANGELISM
It’s a spiritual gift.
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
What if I don’t have the gift of evangelism?
We use tools to help us.
Romans Road
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Another tool: Good News - Bad News
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
APPLICATION
It’s time to live out our purpose!
Benediction
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
