Jesus is the way
Jesus is the way
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”
The Bible Knowledge Commentary C. Jesus, the Way to the Father (14:1–14)
The disciples were completely bewildered and discouraged. Jesus had said He was going away (7:34; 8:21; 12:8, 35; 13:33), that He would die (12:32–33), that one of the Twelve was a traitor (13:21), that Peter would disown Him three times (13:38), that Satan was at work against all of them (Luke 22:31–32), and that all the disciples would fall away
The ASV says trust in God and Trust in Me.
God is reminding us to keep our faith in him. He will die, and a lot of other tragedy will be coming their way. In our lives we get the opportunity to trust in him. To rest in his goodness, especially when things are going horribly around us.
Jesus goes on to encourage us in verse two that his fathers house has many rooms and there is place prepared for us.
I personally find this encouraging. We are getting close to the anniversary to my father and brothers passing. I take rest in what Jesus is saying here. There is room for you and for me and for those who are in him and passed before you us. I like to think that my Dad and Brothers room is next to mine.
The question then is how do we get to this place. How do we make our way to this place. Thomas had the same question.
Jesus answered this in verse 6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
As we go out today and encourage those in our groups and frankly in life. We get the opportunity to share who Christ is and that he has a place prepared for us in all eternity. A place where all pain and all sorrow is replace by love.
Me and my wife have been dealing with a dog who has diarrhea for that past several weeks and we were talking about how easier it would be to bear if we just knew that it would end or that it was getting better. Even if it got worse but we still knew that he would get better. I find this scripture to be that “it will end” verse. he is going to prepare a place with many rooms. I can go many more sleepless nights walking the dog in the cold rain because I know Jesus is preparing a place for me and it will be filled with more love then I can imagine.
What imagery do you think of when you think that Jesus is preparing a place for us?
How can knowing that Jesus is preparing a place for us help us find comfort?
Do you think this is encouraging or can be encouraging for others?
