THREE THINGS DADDY GAVE TO US

“He finished”

“It is important that when we come to die we have nothing to do but to die” Charles Hodge

Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I.                    LOVE – Passion of life – Daddy loved God, wife, family

IJn 4: 7-10 for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8.  He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

 9.  In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

 10.  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

II.                 LABOR – Pursuit of life – Daddy gave; giving is the labor of love.

IICor. 5:8,9 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9.  Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

III.               LEGACY – Product of life – Daddy left a legacy.  His children witnessed a life in pursuit of a labor driven by love.  And seeing that kind of love produces eternal dividends.  For the believer the ultimate legacy is eternal life.

We must not measure that one thread which reacheth from the cradle to the coffin. We must go further; we must go from the coffin to the resurrection, and from the resurrection on throughout eternity. To know whether acts are profitable, I must not estimate their effects on me for the hour in which I live, but for the eternity in which I am to exist. I must not weigh matters in the scales of time; I must not calculate by the hours, minutes and seconds of the clock, but I must count and value things by the ages of eternity. (Spurgeon)

Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Proverbs 14:32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

Psalms 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Phil. 1:23 I am torn between living and dying. I have a strong desire to die and be with Christ. That would be so much better,

He is in another room! There is a land where death knells are never tolled, where winding-sheets are never woven, where graves are never digged. Blest land beyond the skies! To reach it we must die.
