Power, Love, and a Sound Mind (11/14/2021)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

· Fear is a spirit sent from the enemy to drive a wedge between you and God.

· Fear is a trap disguised as a rational thought.

· Fear is a treadmill – once we get on its hard to get off!

· Fear is a habit we learn.

· Fear isn’t an emotion we feel, it’s a spirit.

· Fear must be fought:

o The Faith we Feed.

o The prayers we pray. (I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4)

o The promises we speak. (So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Heb 13:6)

o The practices we live. (Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Tim 6:12)

o The Praises we sing. (Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name Psalms 103:1)

§ Fear cannot survive in an atmosphere of praise!

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. Psalms 91:5-6

For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears. 2 Corinthians 7:5

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; Proverbs 3:24-25

· Power___________________________________________________________

o We are not powerless against the enemy.

· Love ____________________________________________________________

o Helpingothers gets our eyes off ourselves.

o There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. 1 John 4:8

· Sound Mind______________________________________________________

o “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

o We need to learn to think His thoughts.

· God didn’t only tell us not to fear – He gave us tools to fight fear!
