Small family reunion this past week. [IMAGE]
Oldest home on leave, 2nd oldest in from work & school, parents came up to visit, only brother came in from out of town as well. Only missing a sis-in-law, daughter-in-law and the most amazing grandchild ever!
It’s really difficult to get everyone together at one time!
We decided to have an early Thanksgiving-style dinner together.
I’ve alway enjoyed Thanksgiving but this was really special. Looking at my wife, parents, children and brother all at one table was nearly overwhelming. I was so happy, so grateful to be together.
We were together, we were sharing life, celebrating our blessings.
Everyone has headed back to their respective homes now but the joy of that blessing remains.
And it occurs to me that I want that kind of gratitude and joy to become more of my “default setting.”
Unity (togetherness) should generate gratitude, joy, contentment.

Made for Unity

Our original “default setting” was perfect unity.
Genesis 2:18 NLT
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”
Genesis 2:23–24 NLT
23 “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’ ” 24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

Unified Communities

After the Fall, God brought His people into unified communities to demonstrate His nature and will.
Psalm 33:12 NLT
12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
1 Corinthians 1:10 NLT
10 I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.

Joyful Community

How glad...
Psalm 122:1 NLT
1 I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
With grateful hearts.
Acts 2:44–47 NLT
44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Warning: Don’t stop doing this!
Hebrews 10:24–25 NLT
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Action:
Hold up your phone.
Now, go through your contacts and find someone you’ve been missing and text them to ask them join you.
Missing you, love you.
Join them for a meal, a ball game, some event that brings you together in gladness.
Then, invite them to become part of the community of faith. Explore it. Rejoin it.
