1. The Fruit of Saving
20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man swallows it up.
The end result is an accumulation of choices to set aside some money or oil a little at a time rather than just spending all you have as you are paid or consuming all your food as soon as you receive it.
As with many of the proverbs, they are general principles that assume nothing catastrophic will happen.
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.”
11 As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.”
12 But she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.”
13 Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son.
14 “For thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain on the face of the earth.’ ”
15 So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days.
16 The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah.

18 A man lacking in sense pledges And becomes guarantor in the presence of his neighbor.
25 “If you lend money to My people, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.
26 “If you ever take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, you are to return it to him before the sun sets,
27 for that is his only covering; it is his cloak for his body. What else shall he sleep in? And it shall come about that when he cries out to Me, I will hear him, for I am gracious.
1 My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger,
2 If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth,
3 Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor.
4 Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids;
5 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter’s hand And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Tim - high-functioning developmental issues. recieved disability money.
He rented a room in my trailer in OH.
He needed someone to have a joint checking account with him so that he could receive his money.
Joint checking=financially responsible for all debts.
Tim had a cheap $100 car but no license. he would drive up and down my driveway to practice.
I went away for a couple days and made the mistake of giving him the checkbook for food and necessities.
When I came home, I asked for checkbook back. Checks were missing but no record of who the check were written to or how much.
Found out he spent over $600 on a car stereo system for his $100 car. He bought other things too.
Tim got upset at me and moved out.
I started getting calls from creditors.
Meeting with Tim and his mom because I had the check book and the disability money.
Before I would give him back the checkbook, I had him sign a form from the bank removing me from account.

15 He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it, But he who hates being a guarantor is secure.
Don’t take unnecessary risks.
16 Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger; And for foreigners, hold him in pledge.
Pledge = downpayment. Something of enough value to make the debtor want to pay his debt.
26 Do not be among those who give pledges, Among those who become guarantors for debts.
27 If you have nothing with which to pay, Why should he take your bed from under you?
bed is equivalent to your house where your bed is.
Conclusion:
When we put our faith in Jesus. Jesus became the guarantor of our debt of sin. He cosigned a loan for our eternal life with His blood on the cross.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
The only pledge He asks is true faith in Jesus.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
