Scripture:         The Book of Daniel

Preview of the Book of Daniel – The Key to Prophetic Revelation

Here are some of the key passages in the Book of Daniel.

1.         1:8 – Daniel was a committed teenager

 

Daniel 1:8

“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”

2.         1:17 – Daniel could interpret dreams

 

Daniel 1:17

“To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.”

 

3.         2:19-21 – God is in ultimate control of world leaders

 

Daniel 2:19-21

19 . . . Then Daniel praised the God of heaven 20and said: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. 21He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.”

 

4.         2:31 – Neb had a nightmare.

 

Daniel 2:31

“You looked, O king, and there before you stood a large statue—an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance.”

 

5.         2:44 – The dream was a prophecy of future world events

 

Daniel 2:44

“In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.”

 

6.         2:45b – The prophecy will come true

 

Daniel 2:45b

“ . . . The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and the interpretation is trustworthy.”

 

7.         3:17-18 – Daniels’ friends had awesome trust

 

Daniel 3:17-18

17If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

 

8.         3:25 – Jesus was with them in the fire!

 

Daniel 3:25

He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

 

9.         5:5 – The “Handwriting on the Wall” predicted doom for Babylon

Daniel 5:5

“Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote.”

 

10.       5:30-31 – Babylon was defeated by Darius

 

Daniel 5:30-31

30That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain, 31and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.

 

11.       7:17-18 – Another dream prophesying of the “Millennial” Kingdom

 

Daniel 7:17-18

17‘The four great beasts are four kingdoms that will rise from the earth. 18But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever—yes, for ever and ever.’

 

12.       9:4-5 – Daniel prayed a model prayer of identification with the sins of Israel

4I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: “O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, 5we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.

 

13.       9:18 – The best appeal to God for MERCY not Justice

 

Daniel 9:18

“Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.”

 

14.       9:24 – The 490 years of prophetic outline

 

Daniel 9:24

“Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.”

15.       10:13 – The demonic opposition to answers to prayer

 

Daniel 10:13

“But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.”

16.       10:14 – The angel brings more prophecy

 

Daniel 10:14

“Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”

17.       11:36 – The prophecy concerns the “Antichrist”

 

Daniel 11:36

“The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.”

18.       12:1a – The Great Tribulation is coming

 

Daniel 12:1a

“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then.”

19.       12:1b – But, deliverance is certain

 

Daniel 12:1b

2 . . .  But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book — will be delivered.

20.       12:2 – Resurrection and Judgment are coming

Daniel 12:2

“Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.”

21.       12:3 – Believers will reflect the glory of God forever

 

Daniel 12:3

“Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”
