If you pressed me, what you would find is I love Jesus, and I love people, I Just love community and the need for relationship and I am going to teach you over and over again that your faith is in your own hands and that just coming here is enough… but its not, thats why I love the vision of the church
ME: So how did we end up here? Well Maybe you are like me and you grew up calling yourself a Christian but you dont have a true relationship with him..
WE: WHat I want us to see is that there is this life we can live where we think we have it all together but we don’t. I Know this isnt the kind of message youre supposed to preach your first Sunday we’re supposed to come in and be happy together. However, I want to make sure we’re on the same page and you can see why we are together and why are here… I spent 3 years walking through the book of Matthew and you want to know what that whole book points to? Jesus is consistently showing the religious elite that while they know about God, they don’t know Him… and they have to get to know him… and he ends that whole treatise with the idea that we have to do the same thing… that we have to be out in the world making disciples sharing the gospel, going into all the world… thats what is in
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
So when we began looking for a church we wanted to find a place that could take that work and make it a deeper part of reality and thats why the vision here is such an important part of what made this special to us.
Vision: We are committed to helping every person know Jesus, belong to His family, become His disciples and build His kingdom. We stand together in a dark world, as a light on the hill, glorifying our Father which is in Heaven not compromising in His word.
Core values:
1. “God reveals Himself and His truth through his word.”
We study scripture to find God’s direction for our lives and to know him better.
-2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Scripture
We study scripture to find God’s direction for our lives and to know him better.
We will study the scripture together, not just in Sunday School and in Wednesday Night Bible Study but on Sunday… beginning in January we will begin to look through the Gospel of John, when we talk about the Gospels there are the synoptics, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John isn’t the same .... it has a different view of the events and we are going to jump into it. Why do I preach this way GOd wanted me to for a few years… Bob Russell.... 5-6 good messages… this takes all that away from me and allows the word to speak for itself...
Core values:
1. “God reveals Himself and His truth through his word.”
2. “God wants to converse with His people.”
We pray to speak to God. We know that God hears and answers when we speak to him.
-Proverbs 15:8 -Philippians 4:6
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Prayer
Remember praying about prayer… thats not prayer… thats begging...
Core values:
1. “God reveals Himself and His truth through his word.”
2. “God wants to converse with His people.”
3. “God is worthy of praise.”
We praise God for what he has done in our lives. Through song, word, or action we give him glory.
-Psalm 95:6 -Romans 12:1
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Worship
This may be one of the most controversial topics in the church.... we’re all going to argue about how we’re supposed to do it… we’re going to have preferences about music, but the greatest are those who worship through it all .... who realize its not about us… but about him and his goodness in our lives.
Core values:
1. “God reveals Himself and His truth through his word.”
2. “God wants to converse with His people.”
3. “God is worthy of praise.”
4. “Saved people, serve people.”
We are equipped to serve others. We are called to be the salt and light to the world.
-Colossians 3:12
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,
Service
We are equipped to serve others. We are called to be the salt and light to the world.
I loved hearing stories and seeing the pictures that I was sent of the fall festival. There is nothing better than serving our community and allowing people to see the love of christ in us… Some people don;t understand why we do things like this, but the truth of the matter is we do it for the community. We would do events and the purpose wasnt always to get people in the door the next day, but to show them love and give them a place where thye could know they could show up when they needed something.
Core values:
1. “God reveals Himself and His truth through his word.”
2. “God wants to converse with His people.”
3. “God is worthy of praise.”
4. “Saved people, serve people.”
5. “We do life together.”
We were created as social beings with a purpose of being together.
-John 15:12 - Ephesians 4:2-3
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Ephesians 4:2-3
2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Community
We were created as social beings with a purpose of being together.
You have some of the life groups goign now.... adn that was something that appealed to us… we coul come in and allow thse things to move… because what we saw was there was nothing more powerful than community… over the last year what you have seen is people need community… we were designed for it… David Threlkeld
