Fermented wine
Unfermented---grape juice was almost impossible to find
Mixed wine—water and wine was usually 3 part water to 1 part wine. Old Testament was 20 part water and 1 part wine because the wine was so powerful.

Forbidden in the scriptures

Priest in Old Testament--
Lev.10:8,9 “Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:” (Could not drink on duty or on the job)
Num.6:3 “He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.” (Nazirites)
Jer.35:1-3 “The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying, Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;” (Keeping of a covenant to their father)
Excess in the Old and New Testament (Drunk)
Prov.21:17 “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.”
Prov.23:20 “Be not among winebibbers; Among riotous eaters of flesh:”
Prov.23:21 “For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: And drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”
Prov.23:32-34 “At the last it biteth like a serpent, And stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, And thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, Or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.”
Eph.5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”
1 Pet.4:3 “For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:”
1 Tim.3:8 “Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;”
Ti.1:7 “For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;”
Addiction is the term used in 1 Tim.3:3 “Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;” (given is “paroinos” it is one who is addictive to or sit long at; implication of drinking too much)
All Believers if it offend your brother Rom.14:21 “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.”
