Psalms 111
Psalms 111
1 Praise ye the LORD.
I will praise the LORD with my whole heart,
In the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.
2 The works of the LORD are great,
Sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
3 His work is honourable and glorious:
And his righteousness endureth for ever.
To begin with brothers and sisters, Christians Friends, Well wishers and saints of God, I will praise the Lord with my whole heart. Man that’s a bold statement 2x because since we know that God is Omnipotent right? All Powerful, and we know that God is Omniscient right? All knowing, and we know that God is Omnipresent right? everywhere at the same time. and God’s Ubiquitous Nature leaves no room for false fake flaws so we should be very careful in what we say before God. The word of God says they honor me with their lips but their hearts are far away from Me, says the Lord
The text teaches talks and tells us about how David the psalmist declares that we ought to Praise the Lord and nothing else!!!Brothers and sisters in this day and time people are praising all kinds of things and some of them don’t even know it.
It’s so hard to discern Christian culture from cancelled culture, it’s hard to recognize pop culture from Christian Culture, it’s hard to separate critical race theory culture , and Christian culture and it’s hard to differentiate between Black Culture and the African American Black Christian Church Culture. And there are notable differences but that’s another day’s sermon.
But to answer the main statement, the reason why we can’t tell the difference between church culture and worldly cultures is because the church we’ve allowed any and every culture in here and the reason being is we’re trying to fit, flirt, and funnel modern society into the Christian Church, and it causes problems 3x, therefore; I conclude that true Praise has to come from giving our Whole Hearts to the Lord.
At least give it all you got in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation of saints. The word assembly in verse 1 simply means, in the circle of familiar friends. So When you come here you ought to get your praise on because you’re amongst christian friends.
And then there is the profound principle concerning praise . Somebody ask me what is it Pastor?
the bible says “Let everything that have breath praise the Lord.Praise ye the Lord”. Praises unto God upsets the demonic realm. The devil can’t stand us praising God with a sincere heart.
I’m willing to bet my bottom dollar that things will get better in our lives if we come here and praise the Lord with our whole heart. And no matter how bad the situation is, you’ll feel better after you praise God. Praise God with your whole heart.
Let’s deal with the whole heart from a biblical prospective. The word heart in the Hebrew/Aramaic vernacular is the word Lebab .
1. Physical Heart- Your heart is the vital bodily organ that circulates your blood in your body. Without your heart you can’t live because your heart pumps blood to all of your vital organs, to your brain your nervous system your lungs your kidneys your liver your stomach your intestines and other organs.
2.The Psychological Heart - the psychological heart attends to our intellect or intelligence . This Psychological heart perceives, understands, debates, reflects, remembers, thinks, imagines, can be smart or dumb, and can be glad sad or mad. That’s why we have to keep our mind stayed on Jesus.
3.The Emotional Heart- The Emotional Heart experiences intoxicated merriment gladness sadness sorry joy and pain anguish bitterness anxiety despair love compassion concern affection trust lust desire jealousy sympathy and fear. The heart can also be volatile and viscous while at the same time the heart it can also be morally upright sensitive faithful fragile steadfast kind and loving toward God and mankind.
Psalm 111 and verse 2 The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. This is a loaded verse in scriptures because it teaches talks and tells us that people who love God were proud to talk about the wonderful works of the Lord. Anytime you declare that you are a child of God you ought to be able to come up with at least three great stories about God’s wonderful works.
For instance:
1. Elohim The Supreme God,The Strong One which tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.and God made every thing that was made and without God nothing was made that had been made. You’ll find that In Genesis 1 and in John 1
2. What about Elijah out there on Mount Carmel going against 400 prophets of baal and telling Israel How long halt ye between two opinions and God sent fire down in the whirlwind and burnt up the sacrifice.
3.What about David out there in the valley of Elad when he took a sling shot and 5 smooth stones and killed Goliath with one of them and run out in the valley and chop off Goliath’s head.
Brothers and sisters I enjoy telling everybody about the Greatness of our God.
3 What he does is glorious and splendid,
and his goodness continues forever.
4 His miracles are unforgettable.
The LORD is kind and merciful. The Psalmist says that the miraculous events in God’s story are astounding and awesome. And If we just use the NT miracles of Jesus by Himself we’d be here all day. And so, here’s just a few
One day there was a woman who had an issue of blood, who had been to doctor after doctor and didn’t get better but rather grew worse and she heard about a man named Jesus Jehovah Ralpha the God that heals, and Oh don’t you see here pressing her way through the crowd undetected stealthy, surreptitiously, secretly and she reaches in and touch the hew of Jesus garment and she snatch her healing. And Jesus say ah who touched Me? That’s an unforgettable miracle. because it give us hope that if we ever needed a healing all we have to do is touch the hem on Him and we’ll be healed.
And How about Jesus being the Arotos Zoes The Bread of Life Listen 3x the people had been listening to Jesus’ sermon for hours and were hungry and when Jesus told his disciples to sit the people down in groups of 50 so we can fed them. Then Jesus took a little boy’s lunch, the little boy had 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread and Jesus took that and fed 5,000 men besides women and children, with 12 baskets left over.
That’s a mighty work of God. And the thing about this Psalms 111 is that the Psalmist had pleasure tell everybody about God’s wonderful works.
Let’s read the text in Psalms 111 verse
5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him:
He will ever be mindful of his covenant. God will put food on your table when you need it because Jehovah Jireh Our Provider will make sure we eat. God Himself rained down fresh manna from heaven every morning and the children of Israel cooked up ( sweet bread) everyday and God fed 2 million folk every day for years because hey had no food in the wilderness. And in Jesus’ model prayer, He teaches us to ask the Father with these words “Lord give us this day our daily bread” Because in 2021 if you have no food God will feed you too. The text says that God made a covenant with those who serve Him with their whole heart. David said I’ve been young and now I’m old but never have I seen the righteous forsaken our his seed begging for bread.
Tell your neighbor : God will take care of you
6 He hath shewed his people the power of his works,
That he may give them the heritage of the heathen.
Let me make it plain Yahweh Adonai, God saved Israel down at the Red Sea , when Pharaoh’s army was behind them and the mighty Red Sea before them and Yahweh Adonai Opened up the Red Sea and the Children of Israel marched through on dry land. God showed His people the power of his works. Then God took Israel to the Promise Land a land that flowed with milk and honey.Look at
Psalm 111:7
7 Everything he does is good and fair;
all his orders can be trusted.
Everything about the Lord is good and fair. Even if it seems wrong to us, everything about the Lord’s commandments are righteous.Because all things work together for good to those who love God and are the called according to His purpose. God is working it out for your Good because God doesn’t have any evil in Him, God doesn’t have any corruption in Him, and God doesn’t have any darkness in Him. In fact God is light, and Jesus is the Living Light. and God’s word is everlasting . Look at verse
8 They stand fast for ever and ever,
And are done in truth and uprightness. Jesus said not even one dot of tittle of God’s word will change. because the grass withers the flower thereof fade but the word of our God will stand forever. We have so many reasons to praise God with our whole heart.
And verse 9 is especially important
Tell your neighbor: It’s really important. The whole reason we are here at church is because of verse
9. He sent redemption unto his people:
He hath commanded his covenant for ever:
Holy and reverend is his name.
Verse 9 is specifically talking about Jesus being our redemption.
In the names of God bible study series we learned about Jehovah Goel Our Kinsman Redeemer. A kinsman Redeemer had to be kin to you in order to absorb your debt. And because Jesus was 100% man and 100% God at the same time being He’s the only One that could be the Monoghanes God for us. The only one who could absorb our sin debt.
Nobody else but Jesus the Christ was worthy of being our all sufficient savior. He is the savior of the world who came down through 42 generations to save mankind. Jehovah GO’El The Redeeming God. Jesus the Christ . And that’s why we end so many prayer by saying let the words of My mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight oh lord Lord my strength and my Redeemer. Christ is our redeemer.
And that’s the covenant God made with mankind that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that who so ever believe in Jesus should not perish but have Everlasting Life.
So I praise him with my whole heart. And then lastly in verse 9 Holy and Reverend is his name. 3x. God’s name should be revered and held in the highest honor. The word reverend has been generally applied to the clergy, to the preachers but there is no biblical basis for it. the word Reverend in the Hebrew vernacular is the word Yaw Ray (Yare) and of the 314 times its mentioned it means respect and fear and honor and reverence but never the local clergy.
Some of the proper names for clergy are Pastor, Priest, Prebuterous Prophet, Poiman, Shepherd, Elder, Minister, Bishop or Doctor.
Again in the c clause of the text it says Holy and reverend is his name, not my name!!!. That name is reserved for God not mankind
Finally verse
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom:
A good understanding have all they that do his commandments:
His praise endureth for ever.
I’m just going to cut to the chase Verse 9 told us Reverend is His Name right? We verse 10 means for us to carry out those statements and actions . Listen the awesomeness of God’s holy name ought to lead every Christian into the importance of fearing and obeying God’s will. And when you see a person that don’t have respect for God or His word or his preacher or his church my advice is for you to get far away from that fool. Because the fool has said in his heart that there is no God.
But the believer says like David Lord thy word have hid in my heart that I might not sin away thee.
We ought to come before God with loving reverential fear as a child has for his/her parents. And the bible says when you go to God like that , the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
