Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage in the Bible

Introduction

We come to the difficult and sensitive subject of divorce.

A couple preamble thoughts....

This sermon is NOT intended to heap judgement or condemnation on those who have already endured the tragedy of divorce.

It is NOT intended to heap guilt or shame on those who have endured it.

IT IS intended to give us biblical counsel HOW to address divorce. Whether you are divorced AND remarried, divorced and still single, still married but separated, still married and pursing divorce, or still happy married....WE MUST KNOW WHAT SCRIPTURE TEACHES ABOUT MARRIAGE, DIVORCE, AND REMARRIAGE and we must seek to bring our lives into alignment with that teaching AND we must teach, counsel, and encourage others to do so the same.

So few Christians today truly know what scripture teaches and that is because the church has gone silent on it or compromised sound teaching to accommodate a more man centered theology when it comes to marriage, divorce, and remarriage.

IT IS NO MISTAKE that this message falls LATE into the series of messages. We have spent PURPOSEFUL and DELIBERATE building A HIGH VIEW of marriage and detailing KEYS to a whole marriage. Having a HIGH VIEW OF MARRIAGE is ESSENTIAL to our discussion of divorce.

With that said, let’s launch in.
