Intro

Last week, We talked about How God worked through Abraham for two Reasons, To Bless us with the Family Tree of Jesus, as well as showing us that, even though it may not happen in the time frame that we like, God always does what He says He will do!
Fourteen Generations after Abraham, We are Blessed with Another Huge Name in the Bible, King David!
In case you don’t Know, David:
Was the Kid who got the “Break”.
He was destined to be a Lowly Shepherd Boy and the Least among the Sons of Jesse, Basically He was the outcast in His own family, who was more of a slave than a Son. His own Dad didn’t see a bright future for Him
But then Everything Changed:
God Chose David to be the next King of Israel of Israel (1 Samuel 16)
David is Bold in His faith, and God rewards His Boldness by helping Him defeat Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
He wins great Military Victories as the current King’s right hand man.
The People Sang David’s Name in the Streets both before and after He became King.
David was BLESSED by God
David is the Perfect from Zero to Hero Story! He’s the type of Guy that we would hear their miraculous story today in special news segments. A story of overcoming adversity, poverty, doubt. His story is one that would warm our heart and possibly even bring us to tears if we saw it on youtube.
Sarcastically… “It’s just so Beautiful”
David was the guy who, by all appearances, had it all together.
Maybe that’s you tonight, Maybe your the one that everyone thinks is “doing great” the one that everyone is “proud of” but there is so much more, that no one knows...

Body

You see, everyone is proud of David. He’s done, and is doing, “great things”. But He has a secret. David has a problem with Lust. (one of those problems that doesn’t hurt anyone, right?) It’s all inside our minds. We can hide it, and no-one will ever know...
David is normally super busy. He often travels with His armies to battles, but this time He sent His men, but He stayed Home.
Well, If you have a problem of any kind, especially the one that David Had, the worst thing is to be at Home with no-one around, right?
So:
2 Samuel 11:2–3 ESV
2 It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. 3 And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”
So this is the part where David has a choice. We know the choice that should be made. This is another man’s wife. The End…
But unfortunately, that’s not really the way our minds work is it?
Our wheels start turning. We work hard to justify, and give our selves permission for, what we know to not only be wrong, but deep down we know that nothing “Good” can possibly come from this decision.
David did exactly this…
“Noone will ever find out” - She get’s pregnant
“I can handle that too.” - He sends special permission for Her husband to return from Battle so that He would go home to His wife, and it would appear that the Child was His. That didn’t work, because He was an Honorable man
“I HAVE TO FIX THIS!!” - and in His attempt to fix what He had broken, He has the husband Killed, and thus shatters even more peoples lives.

My Point is this,

When we Hide the Sin and Mistakes in our lives, we will do anything to keep them from coming to light!

Now David tried to move on, but there was a man of God named Nathan.
Nathan is a Prophet of God in whom was David’s advisor. They go way back.
Nathan comes in and makes David aware of a great crime that has been committed.
2 Samuel 12:1–6 ESV
1 And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him, “There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had very many flocks and herds, 3 but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him. 4 Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” 5 Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die, 6 and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.”
Who ever did this was going to Receive the full wrath of the Kingdom of David!
2 Samuel 12:7 ESV
7 Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
God then curses David:
2 Samuel 12:13–14 ESV
13 David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. 14 Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die.”
This brings about a powerful and important point. You see David is the “Man after God’s own Heart” God has chosen Him to do a great work! and though He has made a Huge Mistake, God tells Him that “He shall not die”, for us today that means He still gets to go to Heaven!
But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be earthly consequences, and pain that He will have to go through because of His decision.
The world is telling you to “Be true to yourselves” “follow your heart”, well david was pretty true to Himself, and all that brought was trouble. We cannot trust our Heart, it will always lead us down the wrong path!
Jeremiah 17:9 ESV
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

Then, What Do I do with this Sin?

This account tells us that David didn’t eat or sleep, but laid in the floor the whole time while His son was sick, and we don’t really hear what David is saying from what we see in 2 Samuel, but we do in the Psalms:
Psalm 51 ESV
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. 14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; 19 then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
David gives up trying to Hide his sin any longer!
He Lays it out, every single thing!
He Holds nothing back
He Owns His Sins to God! He stops Hiding and Denying! (vs. 1-4)
He submits Himself for whatever Discipline that God sees fit!( vs 7)
He asks God to Cleanse His Heart! to take these Sinful Desires Away! (12-14)
He commits to use his Failures to teach others! (Vs. 13)
In the Same way as Abraham, David was a Broken man whom God used to provide the world with the Savior Jesus!
He can use you! But you have to let Go of those secret Sins.
So tonight will you:
Own that Sin?
Submit yourself completely to Jesus’ will?
Ask God to Forgive you of that Sin
Commit to Serving God over yourself
