Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Vicki Rogers Ireland
Vicki was born on April 25, 1960 in Topeka, Ks.
She passed into the arms of her Savior on August 11, 2021
Vicki is survived by her husband of 40 years, John W. Ireland. Two sons, Sean and Eric, one grandson, Oliver, Sisters Debi, Ramona, and Alicia, BROTHERS Jack and Daryl, Mother-in-love Norma Forster, Brother-in-law Weems McFerrin, and many nieces and nephews.
Vicki was preceded in death by her mother Kathy, and her father, William.
61 years seems far too short a time to enjoy the company of someone that we love
I knew Vicki, but I did not have the privilege of truly knowing Vicki the way that you all do
I am told that Vicki was poetry in motion.
She was creative, caring, and loving
If Vicki saw something that she wanted, she would figure out how to make it
Norma and I spent time looking at the photos of her coconut fish mobiles
I’ve heard of her sea glass marbles
And the wedding dress that she made for herself
She loved growing things
flowers, plants, and children
Vicki got to see a lot of the world
She and John lived in a lot of places,
She traveled to even more of them
Vicki loved beaches, boating, and fishing
She loved animals and taking care of them
You, Vicki’s friends and family have a lot of sweet memories of her.
Memories that you will no doubt cling to and cherish the rest of your lives here on earth
I know that each and everyone of your is hurting.
It has been 3 months since Vicki died, and yet that time seems to you as a blur
Yes, Vicki was taken too early
She had business left to do
There were relationships that she needed to clear up
As much you all love Vicki, I know that you hated seeing her struggle with alcohol
And these things sharpen the ache of her absence
The pain and the heartache of the loss you are feeling doesn’t go away
The times that you feel it will grow and farther and farther apart, but it doesn’t go away
And yet, there is healing from your loss
Your healing and her healing are tied together. In fact, your healing starts with hers
Because today, without a shadow of a doubt, we know that Vicki has been healed
Today, the struggles that Vicki faced are over, and she is no longer chained to them
Today, Vicki is no longer in pain. She is worshipping before her Savior free, beautiful, and full of joy
Today, Vicki stands in a place that she would never want to leave, because Vicki is with Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 4:13–17 NASB95
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
• Today, you are suffering grief, and it is right to do so
• You miss Vicki, and you wish that he was with you
• You remember the good times that you had together, and you wish for more of them
• You are constantly reminded of her absence among you
• But if she were able to do so, Vicki would remind you that today is not the end- it is the end of the beginning
• TODAY, VICKI IS NOT SAD TO BE IN HEAVEN
• HER ATTENTION IS FOCUSED ON THE LORD
• SHE IS FULL OF JOY AND LIFE AND PEACE FOREVER
And Vicki is waiting for the day when all of us can join her there
• Vicki knew that he was not perfect
• She knew her sin issues, and that she didn’t measure up to God’s standards, Even as Romans 3:23 tells us
Romans 3:23 NASB95
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
• She knew that she deserved death for her sin, but that God loved her enough to send His One and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for Vicki
• She believed that Jesus is the Son of God, who has defeated death, and that One day Jesus will return to destroy death forever
And because Vicki believed these things, because she lived her life in faith,
As you and I grieve we can also celebrate. Because Vicki called on the One Name under heaven whereby you must be saved,
• We can celebrate that Vicki is in the presence of the Lord
• We can celebrate that she is fully restored, in a place where there is no more pain and no more death
• We can celebrate because God’s Word promises that Jesus is coming again, and one day you and I will have the opportunity to worship God side by side with Vicki, if we have chosen to believe ourselves
You see, the truth of it is that each and every one of us will live forever
• Those who have not trusted Christ will live forever to suffer for eternity,
• Those who put their faith in Christ will enter into His eternal Kingdom to live forever as coheirs with Christ, even as the Scriptures say
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
• And as we close our time together today, I would honor Vicki by asking you this simple question:
• If today was your day to enter eternity...
could we celebrate at your funeral?
Would your service be one of both grief and celebration, or merely one of grief?
Vicki came to faith in Jesus Christ as a child
And despite her struggles, Vicki knew the truth that no one could take away from her
Those that belong to Christ are His forever
Romans 8:38–39 NASB95
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
No sin, no struggle, no brokenness on this side of eternity is too powerful for the blood of Jesus Christ
Jesus can wash it all away. He did it for Vicki, and He can do it for you
• I know that Vicki wants everyone of you there to worship the Lord with her before the throne!
If you have yet to put your faith in Jesus, I could think of no greater honor to remember Vicki with, than to do so today
