Scripture emphasizes the importance of putting one’s trust in God. This trust, which is nurtured by an understanding of God’s revealed truth, finds expression in a life lived according to his purpose. There are examples in Scripture of proper trust being placed in other people.

Scripture:

Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
All day long they injure my cause;[b] all their thoughts are against me for evil. They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps, as they have waited for my life. For their crime will they escape? In wrath cast down the peoples, O God!
You have kept count of my tossings;[c] put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that[d] God is for me. 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, 11 in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?
12 I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. 13 For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

Introduction: Broken Trust

All of us probably can remember a time when we were failed by someone. Perhaps it was at a critical time in your life when you were expecting someone to be there for you and they didn’t show up. Maybe it was that girl or that guy that you had the crush on and they left you. Maybe it was those on the job who took your ideas and presented it as their own. Maybe it was a friend who shared your personal confidential information. Few things are more sacred than trust between people, and few things are more ravaging than to have that trust fail. When you've had your trust broken it’s leaves you feeling some kind of way and it can actually cause problems in future relationships. But today, God is reminded us that he is a God who has proven himself repeatedly and he is a God of resounding integrity and impeccable character. He can me trusted. Here in this 56th book of Psalm that we just read we see the story of a man who is having some issues. David was experiencing trouble with an enemy that seemed to big for him and that he was feeling or maybe thinking that he would be defeated; the attacks from enemy were constantly coming but he remembered God. Therefore he starts with prayer:
Be Gracious to me, O God,
I have an enemy that is scary and I am afraid
all day long an attacker oppresses me;
my enemies trample on me all day long
for many attack me proudly.
I really am afraid and I shouldn't be.
My solution is that I will praise God in whom I trust. I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
In verses 8-11 he began to remember who God is and who he is as a child of God.

David said in this text: I know God sees me....

He put my tears in the book - You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your book?
3. On the day when I call on God, my enemies turn their back
4. This I know that God is for me.
5. He repeats what he has already said, he said again I can put my trust…my faith…my confidence in Him because he can be trusted.
6. I must perform my vows to you, O God;I will render thank offerings to you. For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God

GOD CAN BE TRUSTED

trust, rely on, put confidence in, i.e., believe in a person or object to the point of reliance upon (2Ki 18:5); (hif) lead to believe, make trust

TESTIMONIES ABOUT TRUST - God has shown himself to be trustworthy.

1. Last week Abraham we saw that Abraham believed God to the point of preparing to offer up his son whom God had promised. He believed in God that much that he knew that even if necessary God would raise him back from the dead. He testified to us that God can be trusted.
2. In today’s hero - David - David flees to Gath - I Samuel 21:10-15 - it’s believed that he wrote Psalm 56 as he was recalling this time when the enemy was against him and he was so afraid.
Right before he slew Goliath, he said in I Samuel 17:36 “Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.”
God can be trusted.
3. The Person sitting beside you can testify. They can witness that Yahweh God through his son, Yeshua, Jesus the Christ can be trusted. He’s not not a man that he should lie. He don’t change his mind. He’s not wishy washy and double minded. Go ahead and ask them, can God be trusted? I’m sure they will attest to the fact that yes he is a faithful God that can be trusted. He is a healer; he is a bank; he is a forgiver; he is a comfort keeper; he is a friend that keeps secret; he is my peace. He’s a way out, he’s a way in; he’s a breakthough; he’s a shelter; he’s a refuge; he’s a forteress; he’s a safe place; he’s an ark; He is my God in who I put my trust.
4. Your own life - When I look back over my life - What do you see? victory after victory, miracle after miracle, breakthrough after breakthrough, deliverance after deliverance - provisions, protection, enemies defeated. God can be trusted. We have to face the enemies that we face every day that causes us to be faithful and afraid. Paul said he experienced in one place fightings without and fears within. Conflict inside us and outside us that we must conquer. Through the help of the Lord we can overcome. He can be trusted. I know they say we should not be fearful but the truth be told, and it’s true but sometimes we are afraid. Sometimes the responsibilities of life, the encounters in our mind overwhelms us, the enemy without and the enemy within tries to paralyze us. But David encourages us that when we are afraid, we can trust in God who can be trusted. He will take care of you. Many of us are like little Johnny
who was in the kitchen as his mother made supper. She asked him to go into the pantry and get her a can of tomato soup, but he didn’t want to go in alone. “It’s dark in there and I’m scared.” She asked again, and he persisted. Finally she said, “It’s OK-Jesus will be in there with you.” Johnny walked hesitantly to the door and slowly opened it. He peeked inside, saw it was dark, and started to leave when all at once an idea came, and he said: Jesus, if you’re in there, would you please hand me that can of tomato soup?” (Victory in the Valleys, Charles Allen).
There are some many things that go bump in the night that we want God to be the one to hand us what we nee. But sometimes we have to face the dark. We have to face the enemy of our souls. We have to look at it and tell it that I will trust in God. The Enemy/ our Flesh - all mankind is futile and temporary but my trust in God is permanent, eternal. I will not be afraid, I will trust in the God who has already proven himself to me.
5. Jesus said to his disciples in John 14: let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God believe also in me. I have your best interest at heart. I’m going away to prepare a better place for you.

Conclusion

Romans 8:31-36
31 What, then, are we to say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare even his own Son, but gave him up on behalf of us all — is it possible that, having given us his Son, he would not give us everything else too?
God can be trusted!
33 So who will bring a charge against God’s chosen people? Certainly not God — he is the one who causes them to be considered righteous!
God can be trusted!
34 Who punishes them? Certainly not the Messiah Yeshua, who died and — more than that — has been raised, is at the right hand of God and is actually pleading on our behalf!
God can be trusted!
35 Who will separate us from the love of the Messiah? Trouble? Hardship? Persecution? Hunger? Poverty? Danger? War?
I will trust the Lord regardless!
Whenever, I am afraid I will trust the Lord who is trustworthy. God is worthy of my trust because he has already proven that he is trustworthy.
He is the Sovereign God!
He is he Creator of the heavens and the Earth.
He loves you with an everlasting Love.
He is for you.
His plans for you are good.
He wants the very best for you.
He sees you and knows you.
Therefore, you must put your trust, your faith, your confidence in the all knowing, ever-loving God.
