Good morning, thanks for coming this morning. I am glad you are here and are interested in this topic.
Good morning, thanks for coming this morning. I am glad you are here and are interested in this topic.
This topic is a difficult one for me because there are people who are very near and dear to me, that I love, who are struggling with SSA or who are living the lifestyle.
My opinion really doesn’t matter, what matters is what does God say about this issue.
So what we will do is comb through the various scriptures and discover what God has to say about Gender Identity and homosexuality. so lets dive in.
In any conversation about marriage and sexuality, we have to start at the beginning because we have to start what was God original idea or intention concerning sexuality.
The Divine Design
Genesis 1:26–28 (ESV)
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Here we have a summation of what God did on the 6th day of creation. God created the first humans and what we see, is when God created, he created 2 humans, one male and one female. We see in God’s divine design, he started the earth with 2 people, a man, we know as Adam and a woman, we know as Eve.
In chapter 2 we get more detail of this creation.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,
“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Here we see, it was not good for man to be alone, so he created Eve to compliment him. In the beginning the divine design of God was for man and woman to have babies and provide companionship for each other. This was the plan of God.
You have heard it before, haven’t you? “Jesus says nothing about same sex marriage.” Is it true?
I had the privilege of leading our Sunday School class through Matthew 19. Jesus is being tested by the Pharisses concerning divorce and Jesus answered,
He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Did you see what Jesus did? Through his affirmation of marriage he was denying a culture of divorce. Imagine for a moment if Jesus walked the earth today, someone could walk up to Jesus and ask, is same sex marriage lawful? What would Jesus say?
His reply would be the same. He would affirm God’s original plan for marriage as He does in Matthew 19. Through Jesus affirmation of God’s original intent of marriage in Genisis he is denying,
Same Sex Marriage- He created them male and female and then Jesus’ affirmation of a man leaving and cleaving to his female partner is God’s original intentGender Identity- Jesus also speaks to our gender confusion culture. “”Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female.” God created people either male or female, the problem is we have separated gender identity from biological identity.No Fault Divorce- Jesus speaks to a divorce for any reason culture. Polygamy- Jesus takes us back to the Garden of Eden to where God created 1 male and 1 female. He also said a man should cleave to his wife not wives.
Through Christ affirmation of God’s original intent for marriage he is setting perimeters around marriage. Through his affirmation he is denying anything which strays from those perimeters. God’s word is timeless and speaks to us in the twenty first century. The question is, will we listen?
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
