Here in our text we are viewing a rather peculiar situation where a Centurion is coming to Jesus on behalf of one of his soldiers who have fallen sick and I say this is peculiar because here one of the workers have been paralyzed and therefore cannot work and instead of this Centurion getting rid of him and finding more suitable help, he chooses to get him help. There had to be something special about this particular servant because all it takes is one mistake and people will snatch your value from you and never use you again after everything you’ve done for them, but there must have been something deeper about this servant that his Master was willing to get him help and not just and help but he went to Jesus himself which means this situation was worst than we thought and I don’t know about you but I have been in some situations where i realized quickly if anything is going to change I need God for this one, I know you have friends and therapists and prayer partners but there are just some problems that only God can solve tell somebody I need God for this one. So he finds Jesus and says Lord my servant is paralyzed and is tormented, and Jesus says to the man I will come and heal him because Jesus is use to people wanting him to come to the house to heal their mother in-law, raise their daughter from the dead, and dine with them but this man expresses something that no one else who needed a miracle realized, can I help you.
In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The word here refers to Jesus because we believe that Jesus is God and God is his word therefore Jesus is the word of God so when we say the word we talk about Jesus but not the person of Jesus but the power of Jesus because Hebrews tells us that the worlds were framed by his words before he set foot on the creation he created so that men will know that the world was not formed by already existing materials, his word had power before he showed up therefore his word is just as eternal as he is this is how Isaiah can tell us that the grass withers and the flowers fade but the word of our God stands forever. His word is not bound to his body thats how Psalm 107 says he sent his word and healed them and delivered them, tell somebody I just need the word.
Here the Centurion realized that I’m not worthy for you to come to my house, but he says i am a man of authority and under authority, i tell those who serve me what to do, I tell one to go and he goes i tell one to come and he comes, i tell one do this, and he does and so any other words I understands the power of the word of God, and if you can just tell death to get back, he has to get back, if you tell sickness to get away, he has to get away, tell somebody you just need the word, if he tells depression to get back, he has to get back, if he tells lust to behave, he has to behave, if he tells lack to get back, he has to obey, I just need the word, because the word works, i just need the word, because the word saves, I just need the word because the word delivers, tell somebody just give me the word.
