Opening Illustration – What is the value of your life? What are you worth? What would you be willing to die for? What is the value of your life to spouse? To your children? To your employer?
What is the value of your life to God?
1. Living is more than breathing!
a. Your mindset reveals the source of your life. Romans 8:5-6
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
b. You reap what you sow. Galatians 6:7-8; Romans 8:13
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
i. Come home late and mom is up. Your dead!
2. God wants you on His team.
a. Choose life! Deuteronomy 30:19-20
I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
b. God is pleased to call you! Galatians 1:15-17
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.
i. Get a life! When you are unwanted.
ii. Now you are greatly desired!
3. Jesus is the Redeemer of Life.
a. Our salvation has appeared! Titus 2:11–14
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
b. Whoever has the Son has life. 1 John 5:12
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
c. Life after death. John 11:25–26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
d. Our redeemed life. Colossians 3:1-4
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
i. We are redeemed! Our lives have been saved!
