Sermon Title: Until Shiloh Comes

Opening Scripture:

Proverbs 30:29–31 (NKJV)
29 There are three things which are majestic in pace, Yes, four which are stately in walk:
30 A lion, which is mighty among beasts And does not turn away from any;
31 A greyhound, A male goat also, And a king whose troops are with him.

Main Idea:

Let’s focus in today on two of the four things in this verse. The Lion which is mighty and does not turn away from any. And The King whose troops are with Him.
What does the Lion represent? Might, Strength and Power. The KING of beasts! None can stand against it. His enemies and foes stumble and fall. The Lord of Hosts is the Lion that will prevail. Who is this mighty Lion? Jesus Christ! Who can stand against Him?
Romans 8:31b (NKJV)
31 If God is for us, who can be against us?
Psalm 24:8
8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.
To be the Lion, He had to suffer as The Lamb.
In the Lion we discover the power of Christ as The Eternal King
In the Lamb we find the grace of Jesus as an Eternal Savior

Scripture Reference: Jacob is blessing his sons

Genesis 49:8–12 (NKJV)
8 “Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you.
9 Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?
10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
11 Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes.
12 His eyes are darker than wine, And his teeth whiter than milk.

Verse Exposition:

So the word of prophecy is that through Judah would come a king who would do all these things. Prophesying of David and ultimately of Jesus Christ.
As The LION, He will be praised
As The LION, His hand will be on the neck of His enemies
As The LION, They will ALL bow before Him
As The LION, He will destroy the enemy
He will lie down as a Lion
As a Lion who can stand against Him?
As The LION, He will reign with a scepter, so He will be a King, ALL authority, and power and dominion belongs to Jesus
Until Shiloh (Messiah) comes. He will be the Messiah
As The LION, All the People will obey Him
As The LION, Binding His donkey to the vine, choice vine, the figure of speech means, He will be the "peaceable and prosperous ONE"
As The LAMB, He washed His garments in wine (Blood) of grapes. He has tread the wine press and come out VICTORIOUS!!

Scripture Reference:

Psalm 24:7–10 (NKJV)
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah

Satan may roar... BUT my DEFENDER is the Lion of Judah!
In the words of the great Charles Spurgeon “If God is the Lion of Judah, bear this in mind, you don’t have to defend a lion, all you have to do is let the lion loose and the lion will defend itself”
It may be that we one day find ourselves in the lion’s den for our faith… BUT I want to encourage somebody… THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH has prevailed!
Our situation may appear dim. The lions are strong and hungry. BUT there is a Lion over the lions.
God is fighting for us, pushing back the darkness, lighting up the Kingdom, that can not be shaken, in the Name of Jesus, enemies defeated, and we will shout it out, shout it out

Scripture Reference:

Exodus 14:13–14 (NKJV) Moses when speaking to the children of Israel leaving Egypt
13 “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the enemy whom you see today, you will see again no more forever.
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Facts about Lions
They protect their pride’s territory - The Lord knows those who are HIS
They hunt even in the worst of storms - The storms won’t stop HIM
A lion’s roar can be heard up to 5 miles - All HE has to do is speak THE WORD, demons tremble, darkness flees, kingdoms are conquered
Most lion’s wear their scars from the fight as a badge of honor - HE still bears the nail scared hands & feet. The side they pierced displays HIS victory over death

Scripture Reference:

Isaiah 31:1–5 (NKJV)
1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the Lord!
2 Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And will not call back His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity.
3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together.
4 For thus the Lord has spoken to me: “As a lion roars, And a young lion over his prey (When a multitude of shepherds is summoned against him, He will not be afraid of their voice Nor be disturbed by their noise), So the Lord of hosts will come down to fight for Mount Zion and for its hill.
5 Like birds flying about, So will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; Passing over, He will preserve it.

Verse Exposition:

The world can’t help. Worldly things can’t help. Our resources can’t help. They may all appear strong, but let me assure you...
We LOOK to Jesus. The Author & Finisher of our Faith. Psalm 68:1 “Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him.”
Let me just throw this in too… IT’S JUST NOISE… If there is one thing the enemy is good at it is making noise… the appearance… the illusion… distraction.
IT DOESN’T SCARE JESUS! Just like David fighting a lion & bear. You don’t scare when you know the ONE that fights for you! Consider it giant preperation.

Scripture Reference:

Hosea 13:4–10 (NKJV)
4I am the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt, and you shall know no God but Me; for there is no savior besides Me.
5 I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6 When they had pasture, they were filled; they were filled and their heart was exalted; therefore they forgot Me.
7 “So I will be to them like a Lion; like a leopard by the road I will lurk;
8 I will meet them like a bear deprived of her cubs; I will tear open their rib cage, and there I will devour them like a Lion. The wild beast shall tear them.
9 “O Israel, you are destroyed, But your help is from Me.
10 I will be your King; Where is any other?

Verse Exposition:

I am who I am because THE I AM tells me who I am!
He’s the Lion, I am His child
He will devour
He is my help
He is my King

Scripture Reference:

Revelation 5:1–7 (NKJV)
1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”
3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.
4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.
5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

Closing:

The Lion of the tribe of Judah, stood as a Lamb as though it had been slain.
His Victory as the Lion came in His selfless sacrifice as the Lamb that was slain.
My Victory comes in my obedience to His call in salvation.
Why does repentance matter? Because in it I’m obedient to His death
Why does baptism matter? Because in it I’m obedient to His burial
Why does being filled with His Spirit matter? Because in it I’m obedient to His Resurrection
