The Long Haul

Good morning
This weekend you’ve heard Mark talk to you about what following Jesus is all about, and how it’s a lifelong commitment. Some people look at being a disciple of Jesus as an inconvenience or a burden, but it’s really not. Really, following Jesus is a blessing and a privilege, not a burden. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30 “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.””
When you become a follower of Jesus, He takes the burden of this world from you, and gives you His burden, which is light, so you can run the race with endurance. And it won’t always be easy being a follower of Jesus, but it will be good. I’ve immersed in Christ for 10 years now, which feels like a long time, but I’ve still got a long life ahead of me. Every day I can see Jesus working in my life, and I love it; I’m in this for the long Haul.
There are many privileges that Christ followers get to take part in, and one of those is communion. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 “For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.”
“Until He comes again.” Now there’s a long haul for ya. Some of you been Christians for a long time now, and some of you are just beginning that journey, but wherever you are in your walk, if Jesus is your Lord and Savior, and you’re in it for the long haul, will you join me in taking the bread, and the juice
