Born by faith (24:60; 20-21a.)

Failure in the expected
Faith in the promise

Born into a struggle (vs. 22-26)

Rebecca would give birth to two sons whose names would head and rule two very different nations with two very different characteristics.
Esau - The progenitor of the nation of Edom.
A physically imposing man
A personally successful man
A temporally minded man
A regretful man- Hebrews 12:16-17
Jacob - The progenitor of the nation of Israel
Deceptive by nature.
Depressive in mood.
Downtrodden in life.
Determined by faith Hebrews 11:20

Born for the purpose of God (v. 23)

Recognize the election of God through Jacob. Before these boys ever did anything right or wrong, God chose Jacob to be the promised seed.
The election of Abraham was based upon the recognition of a promised seed coming for the benefit of the whole world.
Both children play a role, but only one is chosen to carry on the sacred line.
Jacob desired a life oriented toward the promise of God.
Esau sought a life centered in the desires of his own heart.
Today, election is centered in Christ. The election or choice of God throughout the NT is found by faith in Jesus Christ. He is the chosen seed!

Conclusion:

Psalm 137 declares every person within the sound of my voice was created in the heartbeat of God.
