Introduction:
1. Faith is an integral part of our Christianity which comes from study of God’s Word.
Romans 10:17 KJV 1900
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
A. Tonight we are going to continue our study of Hebrews 11 to understand how to build faith.
1. Faith comes by offering a more excellent sacrifice than Cain—Heb. 11:4.
Body:
1. Faith comes by offering a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.
Hebrews 11:4 NKJV
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
A. God did not respect Cain’s offering.
Genesis 4:3–5 NKJV
3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
1. What did Cain need to do to gain God’s respect?
Genesis 4:6–7 NKJV
6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
A. Rule over sin.
Conclusion:
1. In order to learn how to build faith we must learn how to offer proper sacrifice to God.
