Day of the Lord is Coming

2 Peter 3:1–7 ESV
This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
Heavens and Earth
Genesis 1:1 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
In the beginning.
(Turn off all the lights) Starry night light.
Genesis 1:3–5 ESV
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Day and Night was created.
Genesis 1:6–13 ESV
And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
The people that state there is no God, How did this happen. How did this amazing things like mountain springs that flow, or the where in parts of the world, you will see magnificient colors all over the place or you can come to Pahrump and see dirt.
How the mountains were formed, the oceans were formed. Fish, dogs, cats, snakes, elephants, porcupines, kangaroos, lions, tigers, and bears Oh MY! All of these created by God. You and me created in His own image.
Genesis 1:27 ESV
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
We know this story. We’ve known it since we started going to Sunday School or Bible Studies.
But let’s look further
2 Peter 3:8–10 ESV
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
One day is as a thousand years
Psalm 90:4 ESV
For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.
365X1000 = 365,000 years
Average life span = 73.2 World Population
26.7 Million Years to God
World Population in 2021 is 7.9 Billion people
The calculator couldn’t even give me an accurate reading on how long that it.
2 Peter 3:10 ESV
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Burned up and Dissolved
When we die our bodies are nothing but rotting flesh. Our bodies are nothing when we die. We don’t take it with us.
2 Peter 3:11–13 ESV
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
New Heaven and New Earth
Revelation 21:1 ESV
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
This will not be here anymore when He Returns.
The first heaven and the first earth will pass away. We dont take anything with us when we die, this solidifies it. Everything here will no longer matter to us.
However, There is a NEW HEAVEN and a NEW EARTH. A Place where sin is no more. A place where this is no more sorrow, no more pain. There will be singing and dancing and jumping around.
The Final Words
2 Peter 3:14–18 ESV
Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
2 Peter 3:18 ESV
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
