40 And they laughed him to scorn.

I. What Jesus Did With The Laughing People.

He put them out.
But when he had put them all out,
He will put you out if you don’t believe Him.
Romans 14:23 AV
And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
Hebrews 11:6 AV
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Following Christ in salvation is enough.
Following Christ by faith is enough.
He will let you scheme until you fail.
Our scheme for His work fails.
Isaiah 59:1–3 (AV)
It fails without prayer.
1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
It fails without power.
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
It fails without purity.
3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.
Our Scheme for His ways fails.
Isaiah 55:6–8 (AV)
6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Our scheme for His word fails.
Isaiah 55:11 AV
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

II. What Jesus Did With The Losing People.

he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel,
…in with other saved people.
and them that were with him,
His church of redeemed sinners.
His church of regenerated sinners.
…in to face the greatest trials.
and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
1 Peter 1:5–9 (AV)
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
