I would like to begin this podcast with saying how very thankful I am for all the prayers and well wishes that have been sent my way and my families. For those that don’t know, my family and I got Covid and for me personally it attacked my lungs. I was in the hospital for 10 days and have been recovering the last few months. In fact, Sunday November 14th, was the first Sunday I have preached both sermons. So, thank you again for all the thousands of you that prayed for me and God is to be glorified for helping me through all this. I still have a long way to go but I’m getting stronger more and more each day. For today’s podcast we are going to examine a some “Gifts That Cannot Be ‘Taken’ Away From Us.” The first “gift” that cannot be taken away from us is the most important gift of all, the gift of Jesus. Remember the famous words of Jesus in John 3:16.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Paul would declare to the church in Rome, in Romans 5:8…
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus was God’s “gift” to all of humanity.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The second “gift” I want us to consider is that of our personal talents we are to use for God’s glory and honor. In Romans 12:3-8.
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
God has assigned us talents or gifts that is need to built up the body of Christ and help each one get to their eternal home in heaven. This brings me to the last “gift” we will talk about in this lesson which is the gift of heaven. This world is not our home (John 14:1-4; 1 Peter 2:11) which means we have an eternal home that awaits the righteous though. In James 1:12 we find this…
12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
To be clear, there are many other gifts that come from God and all of them are “good and perfect” (James 1:17). The only way these gifts can be removed from us is if we reject them. However, for those who desire these gifts and are good stewards of them these are “Gifts That Cannot Be Taken Away” from us.
