 Jesus – the Leper's Tale

 Compassionate

 Deeply moved

Filled with compassion… (Mark 1:41, NIV - Anglicised)

… indicates a pity so great that one is moved to meet another's need

The suffering caused by the disease, both physically and socially, moved Jesus

Mark had no reservations about depicting the humanity of Jesus

 Reached out

… Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. (Mark 1:41, NIV - Anglicised)

 Willing and able

"I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" (Mark 1:41, NIV - Anglicised)

Jesus acted graciously out of compassion for the man's plight

 Healing

 Jesus' word of power

 Instantaneous healing

Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.

 Points to who Jesus is

For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. (Psalm 33:9, NIV - Anglicised)

According to Judaism, God alone can heal the leper

Jesus' entire life on earth shows that He is God. And that God cares.

Jesus' preaching and teaching is the good news about God's sovereign rule

 Inclusive

 Brings people into God's people

Leprosy exclude people; Jesus included them

"… show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." (Mark 1:44, NIV - Anglicised)

God so loved the world …

 Challenges us

Will you kiss the leper clean?
