A New Home

Revelation 21:1–4 (ESV)
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Introduction: As we are here today let us be mindful that where we are now is not our final place of residence.
John the writer of this passage and book is cognizant of this as he has been exiled to the isle of Patmos.
He declares that even as he is alone and alienated that he is comforted by the realization that there is a new place awaiting for him. A new home.
Transition: John describes this place as a place Prepared By God
A Place Prepared by God (v.2)
2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”
out of heaven from God- It is God’s creation

Jesus mentions this place
John 14:1–2 (ESV)
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
Transition: John says that this place God has prepared is For God’s people
A Place for God’s People (v.3)
“3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.”
This place is for those who have made the decision to be there
You cannot just barge in. You cannot sneak in. You must accept the invitation that has been extended.
That invitation was made over 2000 years ago.
John 3:16 (ESV)
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
