Text:

1 Timothy 2:1–2 KJV 1900
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Philippians 4:6–7 KJV 1900
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Introduction

The concept or idea of thanksgiving has been around for a long time!

It was throughout the hymnbook of the Jews!

Psalm 26:7 KJV 1900
7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all thy wondrous works.
Psalm 50:14 KJV 1900
14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; And pay thy vows unto the most High:
Psalm 69:30 KJV 1900
30 I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 100:4 KJV 1900
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Psalm 147:7 KJV 1900
7 Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; Sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

Thanksgiving is something that is voluntary!

Leviticus 22:29 KJV 1900
29 And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the Lord, offer it at your own will.

God responds to gratitude!

Consider the 10 lepers.

These men approached Jesus with faith knowing he could heal them!
Luke 17:12–13 KJV 1900
12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
These men cried out to God knowing they had a horrible disease in their heart.
Jesus responded and told them to go do something about their faith!
Luke 17:14 KJV 1900
14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
Because they put action behind their faith they received their healing!
After they were healed one of them added thanksgiving to the his action!
Luke 17:15 KJV 1900
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
This got Jesus’ attention!
Luke 17:16–17 KJV 1900
16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
This man who was thankful not only received his healing, but he was restored everything he had lost from the disease!
