Luke 15:11–12 CSB
11 He also said, “A man had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them.
v. 11 – There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, “Father, give me my share of the estate.” So he divided his property between them.
We have become a "Generation of Leavers."
“Some striking mile markers appear on the road through adulthood: leaving for college, getting the first job and apartment, starting a career, getting married – and, for many people today, walking away from the Christian faith.” – Drew Dyck (Christian Today)
It's become "trendy" to not be into religion. It's become acceptable to mock God and the Christian Faith (and the Church is silent)
Just like this younger son rebelled against his father; this current generation is rebelling against God.
A Great Falling Away
2 Thessalonians 2:3 CSB
3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
We are raised in a me first society.
It's hard to preach a God first message in a me first society. #PreachBryson
Luke 15:13 CSB
13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living.
v. 13 – “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant county and then squandered his wealth in wild living.”
The church, like the community is moving farther and farther from the things of God. Sin will always leave you spiritually bankrupt. Many of us have at one point or currently know someone who is spending their life away.
““Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.”
‭‭Luke 15:13-16
Luke 15:13–16 CSB
13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. 14 After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. 15 Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything.
They are longing to be filled but what are we presenting them with.Would you drink the water? (Illustration) (WE EAT ANYTHING)
Rebelling and running reckless will lead this prodigal generation rock bottom.

Go Back

Luke 15:17–18 CSB
17 When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight.

Get Up

Luke 15:20 CSB
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him.

Go In

Luke 15:21–24 CSB
21 The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 “But the father told his servants, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Then bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, 24 because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.
