“BLESSED WITH A LIMP: HOW TO WRESTLE WITH GOD”
Sunday November 14, 2021
Genesis 32:24 - 31
Jacob tried to get out of his predicament by his own efforts
It is in the struggle that you really begin to know God
God’s signature move is a place of blessing, even if it drops you
Sometimes you are blessed with a limp, it reminds us to be in submission to God
Wrestle with God until you allow Him to subjugate you, until He dominate and rules our lives
[Note: It is in the struggle with God we find our identity in Him]
ICEBREAKER:
TITLE PAGE: THE ROMAN ROAD TO SALVATION
Soteriology: The Plan of Salvation
The Fact: God is the loving Creator of our universe (Revelation 4:11, Genesis 1:26) who made the world and man to rule it under Him.
Revelation 4:11
11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Genesis 1:26
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
The Problem: We all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory
Romans 3:21-26
21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:10
10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;
Man rejected God's order and tried to run his life his own way. As a result, we are separated from God (Romans 3:21-23, 24) and because God is Holy & Righteous, we're living under a death sentence (Romans 6:20-23). However, in the same verse is outlined the solution the free gift of God, eternal life, through Jesus Christ.
The Solution: Faith in the finished work of Christ
Romans 5:6 - 8
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9-10
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son to die in our place even while we were still in violation being sinful. (Romans 5:6-8; John 3:16, 17). Salvation is a gift from God and is a result of His grace alone (Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:4-7). The beautiful thing is we don’t have to clean up ourselves to come to God. In order for a person to be saved, they must accept Christ as Savior AND Lord of their lives (Romans 10:9, 10) we are then restored with God, can have a relationship with Him and the Spirit now enters our lives to conform us to the image of Christ through sanctification (1 Thessalonians 4:1-3a).
Three Aspects of Salvation:
Justification – Once you declare Him as Lord it is “Just as if I never sinned”, so positionally before God you are in right standing with Him and are able to have fellowship. (John 3:3, 2 Cor. 5:17)
Sanctification – Though we are declared righteous we don’t always act spiritually, so the act of walking in the things of God and allowing our natural man to die, and things of the flesh to fall off is a life-long process that helps us look and act as the very thing God declared us from the moment, we said He is Lord of our lives. (Romans 7:18-8:2)
Glorification – The final stage is to be disrobed from mortality and to be robed in immortality. (1 Cor. 15:50-55, 2 Cor. 5:2-4)
In the past, I have been saved from the penalty of sin - Justification
In the present; I'm being saved from the power of sin - Sanctification
In the future I’ll be removed from the presence of sin – Glorification
