Colossians 2:6-7 “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
In our life our walk is important. Not our literal walk but rather it often figuratively used to denote a man's mode of life, or his spiritual character, and course.
There a good and bad walks all over scripture!
Col 3:6-7 “For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.”
Eph 2:22 “In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
Col 1:10 “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;”
Rom 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
A carnal walk and a holy walk
In this passage we are COMMANDED to walk in Christ!
To saints-
Col 1:1-2 “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
To not walk in Christ is sin
Not only are we told to walk but also given instruction on HOW TO walk!

The Establishment of the walk!

Col 2:6 “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:”
We are to walk in Christ the same way we originally received Christ—by faith.
- We begin our walk by faith but we also live and continue by faith!
- 2 Cor 5:7 “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”
- Gal 3:2-3 “This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”
- We don’t need anything else
- no person, flashy new thing, new ideas. We just need faith to continue!
- We start in Jesus and finish in Jesus!

The Edification of the walk

Col 2:7 “Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Six: Saints Alive—And Alert (Colossians 2:4–15)

Rooted is an agricultural word. The tense of the Greek word means “once and for all having been rooted.”

We aren’t tumble weeds
Eph 4:14 “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;”
Once we are rooted in Christ there is no need to move!
Notice the rooting is according to teaching!
- It is the Word of God that builds and strengthens the Christian. Epaphras had faithfully taught the Colossian believers the truth of the Word
Jesus in the wilderness “Man shall not live by bread alone”
We grow in our faith as we learn more about God. Our rootedness is based in our relationship!
2 Peter 1:5 “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;”

Like mighty trees, believers are to remain rooted in Jesus, both in knowledge and in practice. That way, growth will occur and protection from false teachers will be provided.

A tree well rooted will survive the biggest of storms

The End results of our walk.

Col 2:7 “Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
We are to abound!
Jesus causes us to abound!
John4:13-14 “Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
We are to abound with thanks giving!
Finally, Paul wants us overflowing with thankfulness. This comes when we recognize that we are complete in Christ, that we have every opportunity to grow spiritually in him. A thankful believer is not easily led away from Christ
A mark of a healthy walk and a faithful walk in thanks giving!
1 Thess 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Worship!
It’s hard to be close to Jesus and ungrateful
Much disobedience comes from dissatisfaction
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Six: Saints Alive—And Alert (Colossians 2:4–15)

we see how the growing Christian can easily defeat the enemy and not be led astray. If his spiritual roots are deep in Christ, he will not want any other soil. If Christ is his sure foundation, he has no need to move. If he is studying and growing in the Word, he will not be easily enticed by false doctrine. And if his heart is overflowing with thanksgiving, he will not even consider turning from the fullness he has in Christ. A grounded, growing, grateful believer will not be led astray.
