ACTIVATOR

LeaderSHIP Lense for Elevate Life Church
Luke 5
Good LEADERS should be intentional about DISCOVERY & DEVELOPMENT. Eyes for seeing the capacity for untapped potential in others and the tools/resources to build on that potential they see...
DISCOVERY is not just recruiting someone to a team or a task but helping to find out what God has put inside of them
DEVELOPMENT is not just showing/teaching someone how to do a skill but inspiring and empowering them to live up to the God given potential inside of them
There would be no point for a shepherd if the sheep already knew where to go
It’s our job as leaders to take people to their next step. Most times they won’t take a step unless they are brought to the next step
ACTIVATORS
Leaders are activators.
1. They don’t just talk about going places and doing things, they go and do.
The guy who TALKS about all the things they’re gonna do and wanna do but you don’t ever see any of those things happen.
NO ONE FOLLOWS that guy…because you can’t follow someone who is going anywhere. These can be people who have lots of influence, can get people excited, create a lot of buzz but can find it with in themselves to actually follow through with anything.
JESUS always had a crowd following Him because he was always going and doing.... He spoke but he always followed up with action
This causes people to lose trust, to lose faith in the vision, lose motivation to be a part.
People want to be part of something bigger then themselves but they see action towards that thing they’ll move on to find someone else to lead them OR there’s the potential for rebellion in some cases (KIDS example: I tell my kids I’m gonna do something and I delay/dont do it… they will rise up against me and some times that means finding something to destroy in my house lol)
TALK LESS! DO MORE! … PEOPLE CAN ONLY FOLLOW YOU IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY HEADED SOMEWHERE
THE GREAT COMMISSION....GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES
2. They have a bias toward action.
MARTHA VS MARY (LUKE 10:38-42) People like to take this passage and idolize Mary for sitting at the feet of Jesus but then make Martha out to be the bad guy of the story.
Jesus never said that it was wrong to get things done.. but he does emphasize the heart intent behind what Martha was doingWe have to be careful to check our MOTIVES, our ATTITUDES and our HEART POSTURE in ALL that we do (Example: My wife’s love language is Acts of Service…she cares also about how I do it)
It’s great to be a MARY but it should lead you to be a BETTER MARTHA. Your personal relationship with Jesus should encourage Faith in action. It should align the correct motivation to what God has called you to do.
We can find ourselves stuck, confused, stagnant and frustrated because we’ve waited so long to take action that we’ve gotten distracted and gone off course
Followers of Jesus are people of FAITH - People of faith are people of ACTION. We are EFFECTIVE and PRODUCTIVE. We move because God is moving. He is not still and stagnant so we shouldn’t be still and stagnant
STAGNANT WATER vs MOVING WATER
STAGNANTS WATER produces NOTHING…harmful bacteria, not good for drinking, pests and parasites like mosquitos who can transmit disease
MOVING WATER encourages life, it energizes, it motivates, it cleanses … it’s beneficial and purposeful
Develop an ACTION reflex
EX) Tendency to avoid difficult conversations - Dive into healthy conflict. Make the call. Tell them right away. Pull them aside. Send a text “Can I talk to you about ____ this date/time/place)
Tendency to wait for feedback. Initiate conversation about feed back
Tendency to forget things. Do it right away or Set reminders or set notifications on your phone. Write it down. Ask someone to hold you accountable
Tendency to wait for others to present their ideas. Communicate your ideas. If you don’t have any them give valuable input
Tendency to procrastinate. Pray and take action
3. They are self-starters.
Not only see what needs to be done but also see the with the lens of possibility and potential
Don’t have to sit and wait for instruction before getting started
INITIATIVE! — Ask questions, share ideas, make the first moves
Know what you are gifted to do… and start with that especially if it serves the mission
4. You only need to mention a problem and they go to work on its solution.
JESUS FEEDS THE 5,000 - (JOHN 6:5-14)
1. SEES THE ISSUE
2. OFFERS A SOLUTION
3. DEVISES A PLAN
4. TAKES ACTION (he makes do with what he has)
Pastor Justin Daily says there are TWO Types of People… RENTERS vs OWNERS
RENTERS see an issue and they call the landlord to file a complaint
OWNERS see and issue and they take care of it
JOSEPH FOUND FAVOR WITH PHAROH because he brought solutions (Genesis 39:4-6)
left everything is his charge and wasnt concerned with any of it
Pharoh’s house was blessed
ACTIVATORS are a blessing to their leaders and to every environment that are put in. You release them to to continue to grow in their potential and tend to things of greater importance when you show faithfulness in this area
5. Activators would rather take the risk of doing the wrong thing than the risk f doing nothing.
Peter is this guy lol He does a lot of things wrong before he does anything right (cutting ears off, denying jesus, tries to walk on water but fails) BUT this is who God choses to be the rock on which to build His church
We cannot let our fear of failure/making mistakes keep us from making decisions, disqualify us from living out what we are called to do, and hinder us from seeing all the potential that God placed in us
You won’t always know what to do. A LOT OF TIMES THE WORST THING TO DO IS NOTHING
