King James Version Psalm 112
1 Praise ye the LORD.
Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD,
That delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
1 Praise ye the LORD.
Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD,
That delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
To begin with brothers and sisters, Christian Friends, Well Wishers and Saints of God, Psalms 112 is just a continuation of Psalms 111 And the Psalmist is sure to tell us about the Great and wonderful benefits that will be bestowed upon righteous people and their children . So what you do does matter.
The first thing I want to talk about is
1.Praising The Lord
The Psalmist starts off very matter of factly saying Hallelujah!!!! Praise Ye the Lord. The word Praise in the Hebrew vernacular is the word Halal, and it means to boast about our God. Stay with me now 2x because it even goes deeper because the next derivative of the word
Praise is the word Hillul which means to rejoice over our God.
Then there is Mahalal which means to be deeply sincere over the Praise you give to our God.
Then There is Tehilla which means to be very thankful and to be satisfied in honoring God for His superior qualities.
I don’t want to over illustrate but as a musician I can’t help but get the definition that applies to musicians which is Ranan meaning to sing or shout joyfully with respect to our God.
and finally there are the term Yada yada yada Hiphil meaning to praise by giving thanks unto our God.
I just want to take out the time to say thank you Lord
This is the thanksgiving sermon and somebody ought to tell the Lord Thank You.
1. Praise ye the LORD.
Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD,
That delighteth greatly in his commandments.
When I look at verse 1
1. I see Respect and Reverence for the Reverend, and Blessings for the man who has respect for the LORD, who is the Reverend. Respect for Jehovah Adonai. And I’ve taught you that when it’s Capital LORD, it’s Jehovah Adonai. I have respect for The Self Existing One.
2. Your seed being blessed and mighty in the land.
Listen something mighty miraculous and majestic that happens in verse 2
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
The generation of the upright shall be blessed. God blesses the seed of the upright. In other words when you do right God blesses your children.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house:and his righteousness endureth for ever.
The Lord will give you ability , power and influence to be able to get wealth.
Some way some how the Lord will make a way for wealth and riches to be in your house.
Even if it’s the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the righteous.
Even if God has to make a wicked person bless you.
3. The Character of the Man
Look in verses 4,5,&6.
4 A light shines in the dark for honest people,
for those who are merciful and kind and good.
This little light of mine I’m going to let it shine, it may not be no great big old light but I’m going to let it shine. Listen, the word f God makes it very clear that we are to be beacon lights so that the world can see how to be merciful and kind and good. It’s better for us to show the good side rather than the ugly side of ourselves.
Tell your neighbor: kind, good, and generous.
5 It is good to be merciful and generous.
Those who are fair in their business
6 will never be defeated.
The word of God says in essence When you are a giver and you have compassion in your giving God blesses your business dealings. Oh Yeah3x
This speaks to the Character of the man but also to the direct results of the actions that are in that person. And you can’t put that off on nobody else because God is looking at you. It’s your individual evaluation from God.
Verse 6 says that Good people will always be remembered. The word of God teaches talks and tells us that good people will always remembered. Those are the actions taken as a direct result of the true character of the Individual.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will always be remembered.
So how do you want to be remembered?
Sweet and kind or dirty and rotten, righteous or wicked, sinister or saintly.
Let’s read verse 6 again,
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever:
The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. That’s a direct result of the true character of the man or woman. When you do right, right comes back to you and you don’t have to always be looking over your shoulders.
Then in verses 7&8 the text teaches talks and tells us about.
4.The courage in the character of the man.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:
His heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid,
Until he see his desire upon his enemies.
I see several things here In verses 7&8
1.The man is Unfazed by rumor and gossip,
2. His Heart ready, Ready for anything coming his way without fear
3. Because he is trusting in GOD,
4. Spirit firm meaning he knows he’s God’s child so the devil can’t do him no harm unless God allows it,
5. He is unperturbed meaning I’m not disturbed at nothing,
6. Because he realizes that he is for Ever blessed,
7. He is relaxed among enemies, Because they can’t do him no harm.
Now brothers and sisters I want to talk about
5. Leaving a Legacy
9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor;
His righteousness endureth for ever;
His horn shall be exalted with honour.
10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved;
He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away:
The desire of the wicked shall perish.
In verses 9&10 let’s list the facts and the specific criteria needed for us to have a lasting legacy.
1. The Psalmist says They lavish gifts on the poor— they don’t mind giving and sharing and donating because we know that you can’t beat God’s giving no matter how hard you try, the more you give the more He gives to you
2. The man or woman in the text in the Psalms display A generosity that goes on, and on, and on. Get this now his legacy is established as righteousness that lasts forever and the reason being is because in this text he doesn’t mind giving , in fact its his way of life.
3. The man or woman in the text lives An honored life! He has a A beautiful life! The bibles says his horn shall be exalted with honor. Give honor when honor is due.
Then lastly in verse 10
4. The bible says that Someone wicked takes one look and rages. They’re so mad until they grind their teeth at you. You ever seen somebody grind their teeth at you, boy that’s spitting mad. And the reason they’re so mad in this text is because Some people can’t stand to see you blessed.but
Tell your neighbor I’m too blessed to be stressed.
5. The text says in verse 10 that your enemies melt away meaning that they Bluster away but ends up speechless.God knows how to bless you like the devil will never do for you.
Then finally
6. The desire of the wicked shall perish.
Let me tell you what that means, that means that There’s nothing to the dreams of the wicked. Absolutely Nothing. They can cook up dream up stir up mount up and roll up to roll out wicked stuff and the bible says absolutely none of that will work against righteous people. Because Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.
7. And so in closing Psalms 111 states to Praise the Lord with our whole hearts and Psalms 112 is a continuation that wills us the positive results involved in praising God and Leaving a legacy behind through your children and the Life you once lived.
