Where are we? Colossians, we are going through 9 verses | These where a people that thought Christ was not God, Paul is here to set them straight | We pick up our text in Colossians 1 verse 19
For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
V19 = Talking about God becoming Jesus | God and Humanity as one | Greek means Permanent Dwelling.
V20 = “Through him to reconcile to himself all things” - this is IMPORTANT | “To himself” not “to God” (would of been theologically correct) | Why significant? proves Jesus = God - What is reconciliation? “The Cause to Co-exist in Harmony” - Adam and Eve- God wants harmony | We needed to be reconciled to GOD > WE violaated the relationship. GOD did not | Sin went one way | God did NOT need to be reconciled to US. We where the sinners, God was THE offended.
“Through Him” | God in Human Flesh - He was the party that needed to be reconciled | Jesus reconciled us to HIMSELF | Offended party was GOD | God did not create a MEANS to be reconciled, he was the party (we get this wrong sometimes)
All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
Go back to colossians
V21-22: Once cut off but now reconnected and now made what? NEW - ABOVE REPROACH! Blameless, Jesus is the reason
Transition: What does this mean for us?
let’s backstep:
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
not saved FROM something, saved TO SOMETHING.
NOT just been snatched from darknesss + Put in the light, but been created new.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
India, cultural differences
You need to learn the new rules, of the new culture.
Do you have someone to reconcile? Before we get there the first step is forigiveness.
Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.
I want to go through a story to help us get perspective, and look at reconcilliation differnetly.
“Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt.
Might understand the basics: Master = God, Servant = Us, we have been forgiven, so we should forgive.
But there is a detail, a punch line formed in the currencies that Jesus is using. Hard for us to understand, different time, different currency. Let me explain | Open your eyes to a new perspective.
**Explain the slide**
How do we tell the difference in currency? Inflation etc. We can use 1 days wage.
1 days wage = 1 Denarius | 1 Talent= 6,000 Denarius = - I did some research: Average wage in Australia = $347.42 per day.
which means 1 Talent = $2,084,520. Servant owed the Ling $20,845,200,000
First thought: What did he do with all that money?
Points to that we have a debt that we can never repay: Man says “Just give me a bit of time”
That’s why we need a saviour.
Servant: 100 Denaria = $34,742 - Not an accident - It’s significant, it’s not small is it = imagine if someone owes you this? | How would you feel? See the problem, is if you are owed this, and keep your eyes on it, you forget about this.
But, its still a lot - and Jesus is asking us to forgive it…gosh...
How do we forgive??
We have been told: Colossians 3:13
Colossians 3:13 (ESV)
bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
It’s easy to be told to, but how
Lawnmower story
You take it back to the Creator and stop focusing on the creation.
We change our Focus | From person that caused us offense, to our offence that we have been forgiven.
**Show Picture**
We move our eyes to Jesus and what HE has forgiven and ask for HIS HELP | We have been reconciled to HIM so we can go to him to help us reconsile with others.
Let me make something clear
Forgiveness does not equal reconcilliation | Forgiveness is not the lack of healthy boundaries | It’s a step TO reconcilliation, and it’s got nothing to do with them | What do we do;
Go to Jesus > We Forgive > We pray for the other Person > We wait for reconcilliation
Forgiveness is in the place of Justice - We didn’t get waht we deserved SO you can give them what they don’t deserve - Forgiveness which is a STEP to reconciliation.
It’s also to give you peace - Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.
How Heavy is this water.
What does it say at the end of the parable?
Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”
Forgiveness is not something we GET TO DO. or ASKED TO DO. IT’s something we MUST TO.
What else does it do? If you forgive the unforgiveable, people will want to know why, or how you did that? and you will get the opportunity to share the gospel and bring people to Christ. No way you can forgive on your own.
You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
If there is a transformation on the inside, there should be a transformation on the outside.
Man doesn’t seek God, that’s why we are to take God to the people | If God so loved the world ,that he sent is only son so that we would not perish, how much more does he want you to forgive your brother and show the light of CHRIST?

What does your life look like if you where to let go of the weight of the something you are holding in your heart? to put down the water
What does it look like to grab real peace?
You can’t do it alone, you need to go to the Source.
You need to go to the one that first reconciled us to HIM. Take the creation, back to the creator, and ask for STRENGTH to Forgive. It doesn’t mean they will come to party, but it does mean that you can have peace. Its simple, but it’s not easy. You need to FOCUS your EYES on what he HAS DONE for YOU in order to forgive.
FAther, if you can forgive us, our trespasses, let us, forgive those that trespass against us.
Turn to Jesus > Forgive them > Pray for the other party > Wait
Has the Spirit Prodded you? Is there something not quite right that you want God’s grace for? That you have felt something, it’s not by chance.
Maybe it’s you that needs to be forgiven? Let me tell you about Jesus Christ - Though he was sinless, though he was perfect, he chose to die on the cross to give you forgiveness, maybe its time to give your life over.
