Introduction
900 years ago, on the 25th November 1120, the heir to the English throne William Adelin drowned in a shipwreck. His premature demise plunged the country into an anarchic succession crisis. In November 1120 King Henry I, William Adelin and many other nobles of the royal court, including some of Henry’s illegitimate children, were due to sail back to England from Normandy. Henry travelled separately to his son, who chose to sail upon a new vessel called the White Ship.1
The passengers and crew delayed their departure until evening and chose to drink copious amounts of alcohol instead.By the time night fell and they set sail, everyone was drunk and it was almost inevitable that they soon crashed. The chronicler Orderic Vitalis estimated that three-hundred were on board.Henry scandalously proclaimed his daughter, the Empress Matilda, as his heir. Upon his death the nation divided when Henry’s nephew Stephen asserted that he was the rightful heir of the English crown. A bitter civil war called ‘The Anarchy’ ensued. Reading and the rest of England were plunged into turmoil.[1]
In the same manner 1600 years before another death caused great turmoil. It was the death of the King Uzziah.
He is also referred to as Azariah. He was the son of Amaziah King of Judah began to reign when he was 16 years old(2 Ki 15:6) and he reigned for 52 years, as long as he was faithful to God, the bible says that God helped him (2 Ch 26:5), he went on an infrastructure adventure, building towers, wells, restoring Jerusalem.
However, he became proud and deliberately usurped the office of the priest and burned incense in the house of the Lord. Despite the Law of God and the high priest reminding him that only consecrated priests were to perform this act. Because of this sin, God struck him with leprosy, and he died in disgrace.
How do we come to this high point in the calling of the prophet Isaiah?
1:4
"4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, A seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, They are gone away backward."(
the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah’s preferred name for God occurs twenty-six times in his book and only six times elsewhere in the OT.)2
In chapter 5 Isaiah pronounces six woes against the nation of Judah:
1. Against greed, powerful people were acquiring vast amounts of land in detriment of poor people and God’s law.5:8
2. Against drunkenness and heavy parting. They were drinking and partying non-stop, disregarding God’s purpose.5:11
3. Against Immorality. They were twisting reality to fit their immoral and backsliding life by declaring good bad and bad good. Utter contempt of God’s law. (5:20)
4. God mockery. They were so down into the swamp of filth that the start to mock God and regard Him as the other gods, incapable of Judgment, that’s why the mock asking God to hurry up and punish them.
1 The vision
1 The vision
Being confronted with all of these terrible situation Isaiah went to the temple to seek God and Isaiah In this moment of crisis, Isaiah went to the temple to seek God and Isaiah was transported into God's presence into His celestial Palace or Temple. A similar account can be seen in Revelation chapter 4:8, God is shown High and Lifted up, Transcendent and Glorious.[2]
The long flowing robe resembles the appearance of robes of the High Priest (Exod 39:24). Kings and import officials used long robes to signify their authority. It fills the Temple because God is infinite in Glory and the Bible tells us that even Eternity could not contain the King of Kings (1 kings 8:27).[2]
The seraphs or “burning ones” being so close to the Throne of God they need to cover their faces and feet, God’s glory is so glorious, so majestic, so powerful that not even angels can gaze upon it, by covering their feet they show how unworthy fragile mealiness creatures they are, and yet God allows them to minister in His Holy presence.[2]
The threefold repetition of the word “Holy” speaks of the infinite holiness of God [2]. The moral excellence of God, No one like God is totally pure, and have no limitation. He is morally perfect. Infinity purity demands our full admiration even more than infinite power or knowledge.[3]
Because of His infinite Holiness, God is a consuming fire.
We live in similar days, the mockery, the greed, the immorality is rampart
