Who is your best friend?

Some of us have that best friend.
Person we are closest too.
We can trust and feel comfortable with.
God wants to have a friendship with you.
Leviticus 26:12
Leviticus 26:12 NIV
I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.
The bible says this is the kind of relationship God wants with His people.
God loves people.
God commits Himself to people.
God calls us to be His friend.
God calls us to follow Him in this world.
a. Jesus helped people discover that the friendship of God was one of the most important things in life.
Jeremiah 30:22
Jeremiah 30:22 (NIV)
“ ‘So you will be my people, and I will be your God.’ ”
Nothing will fill you like God.
Everything leaves you empty.
Genesis 17:7
Genesis 17:7 NIV
I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
A friendship with God is not just a normal friendship.
Friendship with God is a covenant.
A covenant - a binding agreement or unbreakable contract.
Agreement that cant be broken.
This covenant is a unbreakable contact of intimacy, loyalty, faithfulness, and friendship.

A relationship initiated by God.

God revealed himself to Abram in Haran looking at the stars.
God revealed himself to Moses in the wilderness at the burning bush.
God will use people, situations, chaos, and blessings to initiate a relationship with you.
When your content in your life and not seeking a relationship with God, a tornado is about to hit.
To get you to seek God.

A relationship established by God.

Usually there is negotiations when it comes to contracts.
When you buy a car you can usually talk down the price.
This covenant is established by God alone. God decides the terms of the agreement.
John 15:16
John 15:16 NIV
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
God choose me.
God appointed me.
So that I can bear fruit.
The Handbook of Bible Promises A Special Relationship

Key covenants in the Bible

The covenant with Noah—to protect humanity (Genesis 9:8–17)

The covenant with Abraham—to build a special family (Genesis 12:1–3; 15:1–6; 17:1–8)

The covenant with Moses—to make a great nation (Exodus 3:7–17; 19:3–6)

The covenant with David—to establish an eternal kingdom (2 Samuel 7:8–16; Psalm 89:19–29)

The new covenant—to change the human heart (Jeremiah 31:31–34; Matthew 26:26–29; Hebrews 8:7–13)

A relationship of the heart.

God desires to have a relationship with your heart.
God knows that rules wont get us to walk in His covenant.
The only way we can walk in this relationship with God is by the miraculous change of the heart.
So God changes the heart.
Changing the hearts of those that belong to him.
God changes our inmost being where we now want to walk with him and keep his word.
Jeremiah 31:33
Jeremiah 31:33 (NIV)
“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
God will put His Law (Word) in their minds.
God will write His Law (Word) in their hearts.
I will be there God ------They will be my people.
Are we asking God to change us everyday?
I don’t want to be the same.
His promise is to change me.
Some people get mad their life is the way it is but not willing to invite the one who created life into their situation.
Take Aways:

God will never let us go.

This covenant friendship with God might not feel normal but you were created for this covenant relationship.
Our friendship with God is based on a covenant.
A Covenant that was established by innocent blood.
We are in a stable, committed relationship with God who will never let go.
Deuteronomy 31:6
Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
We need to be strong and courageous that God is with me.
God will not forsake me.
God is not going to leave you. He wants to be with you.
It is a solid promise to grasp and rely on even when we feel far away from God.
My son freaks out sometime when he cant see me in the room.
But their are times when I am in the same room and can see him but he can’t see me.
He just needs to walk around a corner then he will find me. But in the end I never left him.
He might of felt like I have left him but I was always there ready for him to come after me.
But their our requirements on our part when we decide to be in a covenant with God.
Does our Faith turn into faithfulness?

The covenant brings responsibilities.

We have the responsibility to live a life of holiness.
Responsibility to be faithful to our God.
a. Covenant friendship with God is maintained by faithfulness.
Just like Marriage is a covenant that is based on sacrifice and faithfulness
God wants us to be loyal to him when we come into a relationship with God.

God promises to keep His covenant with those who love and obey Him.

Isaiah 25:1
Isaiah 25:1 (NIV)
Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.
God is perfect in His faithfulness.
2 Thessalonians 3:3
2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Gods faithfulness is rooted in His inability to lie or do wrong.

Numbers 23:19
Numbers 23:19 (NIV)
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
Sometimes we can get upset that God is not doing things the way want in time frame we want.
Microwave culture.
God can not lie or do wrong.
If everything was given to us right when we wanted it or given to us because we were good.
We wouldn’t need to have faith in His promises.
God fulfills His promises.

God exalts His word above His name.

Psalm 138:2 KJV
“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”
The name of God is powerful.
Demons are casted out of people with the name of Jesus.
God says that His Word is greater than His name.
Today God has given us His Word.
