Romans 6:19-23

I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. 20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When I was in college, I had to stay during most of winter break at the school.
At that time you had to have special permission to stay on campus as the entire campus stayed shut down.
There also had to be a place to stay available, because we didn’t have keys to the outside of our dorms, only to our rooms.
so if there was no dorm parents or anyone else in charge, we had no way in and out and couldn’t stay there.
At that time, there were apartments on campus that were for married couples, or girls, as there was only one girls dorm and there were two girls to one guy.
that’s right guys, the odds were ever in our favor.
a close friend of mine also lived in one of those apartments because he had spina bifida and the dorms were not handicap accessible.
(proceed to tell the story of the crappy night.)
Often we don’t realize it but we are a slave to our circumstances.
even more often we are a slave to our sin
What this text tells us is how to be a slave to God
