Based on Judges and the strongest ungodly man in the Old Testament (Samson) and 1 Samuel, with perhaps the greatest godly man in history , we need to see in the Old Testament Testament this one simple truth:

The hero of every event in the Old Testament is God. Sometimes it’s God the Father, others it’s God the Son, Jesus Christ, and others it’s the Holy Spirit. But the triune God is always the hero. God is our refuge, our help, our protector, our provider, our hope. If you read the Bible and conclude that a person is the hero you need to keep reading. Scripture will always reveal the weaknesses and struggles of every person. God, however, is always the one who is able.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
