Trusting the Lord
The path may not always be what you thought it would be, but be assured that God is in control.
One Christian author told this story about an interesting principle he learned: “Several years ago I met a gentleman who served on one of Walt Disney’s original advisory boards. What amazing stories he told! Those early days were tough; but that remarkable, creative visionary refused to give up. I especially appreciated the man's sharing with me how Disney responded to disagreement. He said that Walt would occasionally present some unbelievable, extensive dream he was entertaining. Almost without exception, the members of his board would gulp, blink, and stare back at him in disbelief, resisting even the thought of such a thing. But unless every member resisted the idea, Disney usually didn't pursue it. Yes, you read that correctly. The challenge wasn't big enough to merit his time and creative energy unless they were unanimously in disagreement! “
Walt Disney wanted his men to completely oppose the idea so that the completed project would be such a magnificent feat they would all be amazed when it was done. He didn’t want to engage in the mundane or everyday projects that anyone could accomplish. He was pushing to go higher.
Could the same be said about your Christian life? Do you want God to accomplish only the most magnificent tasks through you so that He gets the glory for them? In order to have God use you to accomplish His greatest works, you must trust Him to lead you.
Notice the principle in our verses today, “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night” (Exodus 13:21). God led the Israelites each day through a visible object. They were to follow wherever the pillar or cloud took them.
While we may not have a visible object guiding us each day, we do have God’s Word. The Bible should be your pillar of fire that you look to for guidance every morning. It should guide your path and direct your steps.
The path may not always be what you thought it would be, but be assured that God is in control. Many times God’s guidance can seem confusing to you, but as you follow Him through faith, you will be able to look back one day and see how He was leading and growing you along the way.
Do you want God to use you in a mighty way? Ask yourself if you are following Him in faith. How well are you following the pillar of His Word in your life? God can only use those who are following and obeying Him. Commit today to let God’s Word guide you in life. Even if you don’t understand the way, remember to trust God’s guidance wherever He leads you.
