In the great chapter 15 of the book of Luke we find Jesus set forth a powerful discussion on the value of man in the sight of God. In Luke 15:1-7 we read of the “Lost Sheep” that is found and great rejoicing takes place. In Luke 15:8-10 we read of the “Lost Coin” wherein the woman searches diligently and finds her coin and great rejoicing takes place. In Luke 15:11-32 we read of the “Lost Son” also known as the “Prodigal Son” wherein we see the father waiting and watching for his son to come back home and when he does he rushes our to hug him and throws a “party” for him because his son was lost but now has been found. What was Jesus trying to get across in all these lessons? That we, mankind, his creation, are of great value to God. Today we are going to start to examine ways you and I can know “We Are Of Great Value.” How can we know we are of “great value?” First and foremost, because of God’s love for us. God’s love for us explains why we are made in his image and likeness.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
God’s love explains the great price he was willing to pay for us to live with him for eternity.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
God’s love for us explains why even though we were sinners and disobedient we have the opportunity for the eternity.
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
God’s love for us shows us that “We Are Of Great Value” to him. The next time you feel down or someone tries to make you feel that you are not valuable remember that God made you in “his image” and that he values you so much that he did the one thing that would enable you to live with him forever. He wants you to live with him in heaven for eternity. You are of great value to your Creator.
